Putting Mats Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy putting mats, right? No!

SKLZ Golf Practice Mat

The SKLZ Accelerator Pro is a long and narrow putting surface, specifically designed to help keep your focus on a few key aspects of your putting game. Printed on the 9’ x 16.25” putting surface are sets of stroke guides, strategically placed 3, 5, and feet away from the hole. One of the best things you can do for your putting game, is to work on consistently sinking the short putts! Not only will using these guides help you gain more confidence in your when facing putts at these distances, but parallel guideline design offers a great visualization to help keep your putter square throughout the entire motion. Also, a nice add is a built-in ball return which you’ll I think you’ll find is a small, yet very satisfying reward for making your putts!

Indoor Putting Mat

What’s that you say? One hole just isn’t enough for you?! feet just isn’t cutting it anymore…? You want 10.feet of luscious green putting surface and not one, but holes to put your golf balls into?! Well look no further that this innovative piece of practice technology introduced to the market by LEVELGOLF. As if it wasn’t already hard enough to the ball in the, this indoor putting green comes with hole configurations for you to really sharpen your skills. One standard sized 4.25-inch cup, and your choice of either a smaller 3-inch cup, or a wickedly sized 2-inch cup for all you out there just enjoy living in misery! Adding distance markings ranging from to feet, a stroke tracking line, and an adjustable gravity ball return for good measure, and what you’ve got is one extremely useful piece of training equipment almost guaranteed to help lower your scores!

Inclined Putting Practice Green

Nope. That’s not a type… You’re reading that right. A putting green with hazards built in! Okay, I’ll admit… It’s a bit gimmicky. But hey, you can’t knock the creative spirit, eh? Gimmicks aside, as useless as the built-in “hazards” may be, you might find some of value in the overall “challenging” design of this putting green. Measuring in at ft. wide x ft. long, a smaller than standard cup size of inches, and built with a slight incline the makers of this putting surface set out with a goal of making a standard putting green with a bit of a devilish side. All of that and a modest price point makes this a worthy contender to help keep you sharp on those “easy” uphill putts.

This one’s a 2-for-1!

This multipiece set includes two separate greens. One for putting and another for chipping! I know… Awesome, right?! If putting is the most important thing you can work on to improve your game, chipping can’t be far behind. This neat chip/putt set comes with an oblong 32-inch x 45-inch putting surface with independently configurable hole locations, and a smaller 12-inch x 24-inch chipping mat with rubber tee included. To be 100% honest, you probably won’t get much use out of this set, in terms of actual practice, but it comes with 1balls multicoloured balls and it even floats in water!

This one made the list simply because of its domination in the “FUN” department!

Backyard Putting Green

Game Improvement

The mat stretches out to feet, which is great. If I could double the amount of putts I make within feet then that has a huge impact on my scores and handicap.

Great length and rolls true. Faster on my basement floor than on carpet.

Item processing time

After confirming your payment, we usually ship products out within 2business hours. However, sometimes due to large transaction volumes or other order issues, we may require up to working days to process orders. You will receive a notification email as soon as your product(s) have been dispatched.

EU Warehouse: Typically 3-days to the UK, 3-days to other European countries.

The Left-Right Divide

The easiest option, if you have enough room, is to buy two golf mats, cut a carefully measured chunk from the exact centre and fit the simulator unit into the hole with the cable running down the middle. This way, lefties and righties can play together without having to continuously move equipment around.

A Custom-Built Golf Simulator Mat

The Optishot virtual golf simulator can be used by itself without additional matting. But I strongly recommend that you acquire a practice mat to use in conjunction with the simulator unit. Why? You might think that this is a non-essential purchase but there are a number of reasons why a practice hitting mat is important to your home studio.

Putting Green FAQs

Is the surface comparable to a real putting green surface?

Our putting greens boast the most realistic putting surface on the market. We engineer the surface to mimic the grain of a real putting green.  You can even practice putts going both into the grain as well as with the grain.

Practice makes putts.

Accelerator Pro lets you practice key putt lengths on a true-roll surface. Precise alignment guides at 3, 5, and feet assist every aspect of your putting motion – squaring the face, back swing, and follow through – for greater accuracy and distance control on every putt.

This SKLZ Accelerator Pro putting mat enables you to practice three key putt lengths!

Made in the USA, this true-roll putting mat is for use in your home of office.

With alignment guides and gravity ball return for continuous practice, the nine foot mat is designed to adjust to each putt distance.

SKLZ Accelerator Pro Golf Putting Mat

The first piece of indoor putting practice equipment that you should look for is a putting mat, such as this model from SKLZ. While you might be able to putt on the carpet or wood floors in your home, that will never quite be the same as using a mat that has been specifically designed for this purpose. With this SKLZ mat, you will get a fast and true roll, similar to what you would experience out on the course (on a course with good greens, at least).

This specific mat has a couple of features which allow it to stand out from some of the other options on the market. One nice feature is the ball return that comes down the side of the mat, meaning you won’t have to go walking after your golf balls after each set of putts. Not only does the ball return save the effort of going to retrieve, but it also saves you time – meaning you will be able to fit more practice putts into your session.

The other nice feature included in this mat is the set of marking lines that have been placed on the artificial surface. These lines will help you to get your putter square at address, a key fundamental for anyone hoping to make more putts. You will be surprised at how many more putts you can make just by getting lined up correctly, and this mat will help you do exactly that. By adding this putting accessory to your home or office, you will be able to hit as many practice putts as you would like each day – and you will likely see improved results on the course in short order.

JEF World of Golf Automatic Putting Cup

Do you already have a surface in your home or office that is suitable for putting? If so, you may only need a target – which is where this next product comes in handy. The JEF World of Golf Automatic Putting Cup will send the ball rolling back to you after each made putt. This is a tool that is not only helpful in your practice, but it is a bit of fun at the same time – there is something satisfying about seeing the ball shoot back to you after rolling it right into the middle of the cup. Since this unit is battery powered, there is no need to drag a cord across the room for power – simply set it up wherever you would like and start putting.

TPK Golf Training Aid Putting Stick

This unique tool is another putting aid that can be used both inside and outside. If you feel like you struggle to strike the ball cleanly on a consistent basis with your putter, this is an aid that is worth a closer look. By forcing you to roll the ball along a thin stick, this training aid doesn’t let you get away with any kind of miss-hit – either you strike the putt cleanly with a square face, or the ball will quickly fall off track and you will realize your mistake.

In addition to the putting track that demands impressive accuracy, there is also mirror to help with alignment and a backswing stop to teach you distance control. There aren’t many putting aids on the market with the number of different features that are included with this item, and that fact alone makes it worthy of your attention.

Sklz Accelerator

Pro Ball Return Putting Mat is a specially built nine-foot putting mat designed to enable golfers to practice Key putt lengths at home or in the office on a high quality true putting surface. Sklz

It has an uphill grade at the end to train you how to put 1inches past the hole and avoid short putts. Another unique features is a Gravity Ball Return that makes continuous practice possible and it can be adjusted to each putt distance. Sklz Accelerator Pro Ball Return Putting Mat is designed with high quality true surface that mimics a real course green Back, the tracks are also removable ensuring that the ball keep rolling. Improve Your Putting Stroke With A Putting Practice Mat

Did you know that about 40% of all shots on the golf course are done using a putter? Yeah, that’s right!

So if you want to improve your score, it makes sense therefore that one of your goals should be to reduce your number of putts per round.

This is where a putting practice mat would be very beneficial to you. With a practice putting mat, you will be able to practice your putting stroke and make it more efficient and accurate.

Every time you practice, you train yourself how to do it until it becomes common sense to your mind and body how to perform your putting stroke. In this sense, your putting will become better and your shot accuracy will increase.

A great way to practice your putting is with an indoor putting mat. There are many types of putting mat available out there but of course you would want just the best putting mat there is.

That is why in this article we will list out and provide reviews of the top three best indoor putting mats that are pretty popular in the market these days.

The top three (3) most popular indoor putting mats are the following:

FairwayPro Divot Simulator Golf Mat

The FairwayPro Divot Simulator Golf Mat is an ingenious addition to the golf mat family. This is one of the first mats to utilize sliding technology to provide a more realistic ball striking experience. There are multiple pros and cons to using a new technology like this to simulate a real world event though. The first pro to using a mat like this is that you can avoid the painful shock and impact of hitting fat shots with the traditional mat. The first con to this mat is that with more moving pieces comes more chance for malfunction.

Standard golf mats will not break in the same way that this device breaks. Standard golf mats simply provide the user with a platform to practice his swing from; this device utilizes a mechanism to artificially move your hitting surface forward and backwards with each shoddy take. This hitting mat works exceptionally well for lower volume but when you start hitting hundreds and hundreds of golf balls a day you can run into serious problems with moving parts. The FairwayPro Divot Simulator Golf Mat is the only choice for people who want the most realistic experience they can get while still hitting off of an artificial surface.

Callaway FT Launch Zone Hitting Mat

The Callaway FT Launch Zone Hitting Mat is one of the smallest hitting mats available today. The advantage to buying a smaller hitting mat is that you must focus on consistently being in a perfect impact position or you run the risk of damaging your golf clubs and hurting yourself in the process. This small hitting mat also offers a heavier weight, than the majority of its competitors, so that it will not slide upon impact.

Callaway has integrated their patented tee holding technology, which can hold any type of tee directly in the mat. This hitting mat is extremely useful for people who are working with limited space and a limited budget. The quality and build of this mat are second to none when you take into account the durability that this little guy has to offer. The Callaway FT Launch Zone Hitting Mat is a phenomenal swing mat for the more experienced golfers.

SKLZ Glide Pad Divot Simulator Golf Mat

The SKLZ Glide Pad Divot Simulator Golf Mat almost identically simulates natural grass movement while practicing your golf swing. This divot simulating technology greatly helps reduce shock and injury to your body. This hitting mat can be used either at the driving range or at home but you must figure out a way to make it level with your stance height.

These SKLZ glide pad is extremely portable at only pounds and can be brought anywhere you need to practice your golf game. The proprietary sliding mechanism is what gives this product its competitive edge.

This hitting mat features a 10” x 19” hitting surface that can also support real wooden tees directly in the mat. The thick and durable turf that this mat is constructed with ensures that it will not break down or deteriorate for thousands and thousands of shots.

The only weak point that may exist on this golf mat/training aid is the actual sliding mechanism itself. It is unclear how many shots approximately this golf mat can handle but eventually the sliding mechanism will have to give. The SKLZ Glide Pad Divot Simulator Golf Mat makes practicing without real grass a whole lot easier.

Exclusive Pro Hitting Strip

The Exclusive Pro Hitting Strip is a smaller more compact hitting mat that provides you with a very solid hitting area to practice striking golf balls on. This mat can help you improve your swing by providing you with real time feedback as to whether or not you are making solid contact.

If you are a hitting your shots consistently heavy, than this mat will give you the feedback to realize that you need to bottom out your divot more in front of the golf ball. If you’re only hitting the golf ball on the bottom few grooves of the clubface, than this mat will let you know that you need to hit more down and through the golf ball.

Solid impact is so crucial to playing consistent golf that this mat could be a life changer if used correctly. This mat is made from 100% nylon and directly holds a wooden tee. This inch thick golf mat greatly reduces your risk of injury by absorbing the shock that your elbows and wrist would normally have to handle. The Exclusive Pro Hitting Strip is a great tool to use to get a more tactful feel on how you are actually striking the golf.

SKLZ Quickster Golf Net with Target

The Quickster Golf Net from SKLZ is the perfect solution for any golfer that wants to develop their game and refine their swing with convenience and comfort. Compared with several other nets on the market, the Quickster is extremely easy set up and you will be up and running in no time, even if you don’t even read the instruction manual. The Quickster is one of the largest, quick-assembly golf training net that you will find on the market today, standing at 8’x8’.

It can be said about the Quickster golf net that its production team needs to raise their quality standards a little bit because this unit is not built with the same quality values in mind like the big brands. Nevertheless, this golf net features an extremely appealing price-tag and is ideal for kids and teenagers to practice their swing.

With such a large and spacious net, you are able to sharpen your focus and practice various types of swings. This compact and easy to use golf net features a composite steel and fiberglass Tension-Tite frame with sturdy corner joint. Moreover, it’s built with solid 2-ply netting, a removable target and you will get a carrying bag to store the net in.

All in all, if you are searching for a decent golf net that you can set up very quickly and is good enough to withstand a full swing shot without ripping a whole in the net, then we might have something that will fit your needs perfectly. Its price reflects its quality and you should consider this if you are on a tight-budget or if there are any young golfers in your household.

in Golf Practice Set Mat Driving Net Chipping Net and Bag

This is a in golf practice net from Ajillis that has proved very effective for current users. It features a driving net with two expandable fiber-glass poles that you can extend. This net is suitable for both indoor and outdoor uses thanks to its weather-proof and water-resistance. It comes with a driving mat that features high-quality artificial turf surface on a well-built rubber base. To ease up the assembling process, the Velcro was removed and to make up for the Velcro, the sleeve has been increased instead.

With the in Golf Practice Set, you are able to enjoy your practice and fine-tune your driving, chipping, and approach shots without leaving your home. Basically, you will get everything you need to exercise your golf skill and maximize your practice time.  Equipped with such a large net, you can rest assured that the net will catch all your golf balls, even your mishits!

Understand your Needs

We are all different, with different skills and swing style. What might fit your needs might not fit your neighbor needs. It will be an extremely bad decision from you to buy just any golf net that looks good and is cheap. You need to find out your needs and what kind of net will fit your playing style. Do you need a cage? Do you want to practice with all your golf clubs? Do you need ball-return? Do you want to practice long shots? Are you looking for small and practical golf net that you can take with you wherever you go?

These are questions that you need to ask yourself. I advise you to make a list of the most important features that you expect from a golf hitting net. It doesn’t have to be a long list but if you make a list, the selecting process will be a lot easier and a list with special features will help you to understand your golfing needs as well.

Efficiency and Comfort

Using a golf hitting net will allow you to organize your time better. You will be able to practice whenever it’s convenient for you. This way you will get the most out of your free time and you can focus more on developing your game play, instead of wasting time driving to the range and wait in line buying golf balls.

There is also another huge advantage of owning your own golf net and that is the ability to practice on your own in the comfort of your home in peace. Your home is your space where you feel relaxed and comfortable. There will be no crowds to deal with, or irritated and impatient golfers laughing at your new technique. With golf net you will be able to conveniently focus on mastering your swing and step-up your golf game to maximize your results.

Practice any Time of the Year in All Weathers

The majority of the high-quality golf nets that you will find on the market today are developed in a way that they can be used both indoors and outdoors. Many of you guys are dealing with extreme winter weather while others enjoy more stable climate. With a golf net, you are able to practice all year-round.

It doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowing or windy outside because if you have the time to practice, you can do it with a golf hitting net. Having a golf practice net is an ideal way to strengthen your game-play and lower your score because you have the ability to practice all year-round and continue your golf development instead of having to withdraw yourself because of the weather that can sometimes hold you back for months, depending where you live.

Cost-Efficiency

To buy golf net will require you to invest some money, but over the long-term, it will certainly pay off. You have to think long-term in this case because the upfront cost of a golf net is nothing compared to the gasoline that you spend on the way and all the golf buckets you need to buy to practice. Instead, save some money and enjoy the ability to practice as much as you want at the time that suits you!

You need to think about where you are going to use the golf net. Most likely you already have a place in mind where you would use it to practice. Basically, the more space you intend to use, the larger net you will need to invest in. It can be in your backyard, living room, basement or garage and you have to make sure that the size of your golf net will fit in your desired space in your home. I would suggest you to measure out your intended space in your home (width, height and depth) so that you can cross out the golf nets that won’t fit in your space. Preferably, your best option is to invest in the biggest net that fits your space, but you need to have enough space for you to stand in front of the net and you need space to swing your golf club without hindrance.

Net Strength

Here we have one of the most significant factors that will determine the durability of your golf net. You need to pay close attention to the strength and the netting material of the golf net that you intend to invest in. It’s really important that the netting material is thick and able to resist all the force from your golf ball. Nets with high density are the perfect option because with high density, the force from the incoming ball will spread out through the net. This will guarantee ideal resistance and your net won’t get damaged even though you swing it with all your force.

On the other hand, with the cheap golf nets, the nets do not provide enough density and they are simply not strong enough to resist the golf ball. In that case, you will eventually realize that once you use high power driver, the golf ball will fly right through the net. Therefore, it’s important that you investigate what golf clubs you can use with your net. There are some nets on the market that are not designed to be used with high power drivers and if you use a driver, the warranty of your net will be voided, that is to say if your net has a warranty.

You might save a buck or two with a cheaper net but you need to bear in mind that a golf net is a long term investment and it is your best option to invest in a high-quality and durable golf net. Many of the nets sold today have double layers to ensure even more safety. If, by any chance, the first ball goes through the first net, the second net will keep the golf ball from leaving the net.  Another important factor to keep in mind is that you should not stretch your net too much. If it’s too stretched, it will not be able to resist and absorb the power of impact and will most likely rip once the golf ball hits the net.

Net Material

Understand that cheaper low-quality nets, that are sold today, will include in their description that their net is made out-of extremely strong material. However, that is not always the case. In order to find out the quality of the net material, it is best for you to read what current users have to say about using the net. In my reviews, you will see hands-on all the information you need to know and what users had to say about their experience.

Giving that the netting is probably made of the same material for most of the high-end golf nets, it’s also important to take into account the material of the frame. This is extremely important to consider, specifically if you plan on leaving it up for a long period of time. Most of the nets on the market will feature high density plastic poles or lightweight aluminum poles. By designing the golf net with lightweight frame, you can carry the unit easily around. Below you will find the three main types of frame for golf practice nets.

Driving Nets

These are larger version of chipping nets. However, they are much more durable and are designed to resist the force from a high-powered driver. High-Density net will catch the ball and deliver it back to you or return it in a hole in the net. Driving nets are bulkier than chipping nets. However, despite being heavier and larger, some are very portable.

Golf Cages

If you are wondering how hard or time consuming it will be take down your golf net, it all boils down to the question of what type of net you intend to invest in and how often you will be assembling and taking down the net. It’s usually very easy process to take down and assemble chipping nets and it generally takes just few seconds.

In spite of this, other types, such as cages can be quite challenging to set-up and de-assemble. The reason is because they are much heavier and larger than other nets on the market. Due to this impracticality and the time needed to set-up, your best option is to make sure you set-up the cage in a place where you don’t have to take it down frequently. Choose a place where it can be wide open whenever you need it.

Indoor and Outdoor

Most of the nets available on the market are designed to be used both indoors and outdoors. Driving nets and chipping nets are ideal to use indoors, but you need to make it a safe space. This is fantastic feature for those who live in extreme weather climate with long winter months. You can basically practice any time you want, no matter how bad the weather is outside.  However, whenever you can, you should practice outside because it will give you more realistic environment. Practicing outside will enable you to practice your swings in different wind conditions and you will understand how to deal with sun glare and other environmental conditions.

As I did mention above, understanding your needs is one of the fundamental factor of choosing the golf net that suits you. Once you have taken into account your needs, set yourself a budget and keep in mind your budget while you research the best golf net that you think will be ideal for you. There are many factors that influence the price of golf nets and it goes without saying that as the specifications and special features increase, the cost of the golf net will also increase.

It’s more than just special features that determine the price tag. The price will fluctuate depending on the brand and manufacturer. High-rated brands from reputable manufacturer will feature higher price. However, from the premium golf net manufacturers, you will be sure to receive a top-quality and highly rated product.

Another factor that will influence price is the type of net you invest in, such as, chipping net, driver net or cage. Evidently, a large cage will cost more than a compact chipping net.

You Get What You Pay For

Just like with anything you buy, you end up getting what you pay for and the same phrase applies for golf nets as well. A simple golf net can range from 40 bucks all the way up to a sophisticated package of 800 dollars and between these two price points are endless of models and brands that you can choose from.

There are so many cheap nets on the market today and those cheap nets often come with bad quality that will only leave you disappointed at the end of the day. Although you might be investing in your first golf net, it’s important that you go for a golf net that will last you for years to come. I don’t recommend you to go for the cheapest golf net even though it might look good. Practicing your swing and mastering your skill is an investment and your first golf net should be treated as a long-term investment.

That way, you will be able to improve your game significantly by practicing your swing and mastering your skill with a golf hitting net. I can guarantee you one thing, once you start using a golf net, your practice routines will become more consistent and frequent and that will benefit you towards a lower score on the golf course.

Sharpen Your Game With A Practice Putting Green

If you’re one of the millions of golfers who neglect the putting surface in favor of the driving range, it might be time to invest in an indoor putting green. You don’t need a large house or bundles of money. A portable putting surface can easily be assembled in a garage, games room, or spare bedroom for a fraction of the price of a new carpet!

Putting has been described as ‘a game within a game’. Knocking that short par putt into the center of the hole certainly feels like a different challenge to smashing the driver down the middle of the fairway. Yet it doesn’t matter whether your shot travels a few inches or 300 yards; it still goes on the scorecard. The importance of putting practice is often underestimated or overlooked entirely because the putting stroke appears simplistic when compared to the complexities of the full swing. Don’t fall into this trap. Almost half of all golf shots take place on the green. This is part of your game that deserves your attention.

Indoor Putting Greens: Five Points To Consider Before Buying

It’s worth spending a few moments thinking about what you want from your practice putting surface and how it will fit into your home. Here are a few things to consider:

Size and Storage – Portable greens come in all shapes and sizes. Check the dimensions of the product before buying then measure out the area where you intend to use it in your home. You’ll require enough room to take your normal putting stance and if you have any left-handers among your friends or family, make sure there’s enough room for them too. One of the most practical qualities of a portable green is that you can roll it up or disassemble it and store it away. If you’re lucky enough to have your own dedicated games room then this may not be an issue for you.

Surface Quality – Strive to find a putting surface within your budget that is as realistic as possible. In terms of ball movement, the closer the surface is to real turf, the better. Use a spirit level to check that your floor is truly flat (unless you want to putt with break). It’s also worth knowing that the speed of putting greens that roll out on top of your floor is affected by the firmness of the surface. Spongy carpets produce lower ball speed whereas a hard wood floor will result in faster putts.

Contour – Do you want to practice straight putts, uneven putts that break left/right or both? Many of the higher priced products come with accessories that allow you to manipulate the contour of the green so that you can train yourself to nail those tricky sloping five footers.

Cleaning – Most indoor greens can be vacuumed or washed with detergent and water. If in doubt, always check the manufacturer’s recommendations. If the product doesn’t contain any information about cleaning, try contacting the manufacturer via their website.

SKLZ Accelerator Pro Ball Return Putting Mat

The putting surface is marked with white guidelines at varying distances from the hole. This provides you with a simple yet effective way of monitoring your swing and ball path. Golf is a game of repetition and the Accelerator helps ingrain a repeatable swing by allowing you to hit shot after shot without having to move to retrieve your ball. A plastic slide next to the putting surface uses gravity to deliver the ball right back to your feet. And when you’ve finished your practicing session, just roll up the mat and return it to the cupboard.

TrueStrike Golf Mat

One of the biggest problems that traditional driving range and home golf mats have is that they don’t provide accurate shot analysis and feedback. Why? Because the hitting surface is much harder than a typical fairway. An iron that descends into turf carves a divot. An iron descending onto a rigid surface bounces back up. This lack of realism greatly diminishes your capacity for quality practice. Any golfer who loves his 7-iron at the driving range but hates it out on the course will understand.

The TrueStrike golf mat addresses this problem head-on with an innovation called Fairway Forgiveness™. As the name suggests, this is a mat that imitates the softness of the fairway, absorbing the clubhead as if it were cutting through real turf. The result is an accurate ball flight (to within 5% accuracy of a shot taken off a genuine fairway according to the makers) and less strain on your body.

TrueStrike works by applying a layer of gel directly below the top surface. This gel reacts to the descending clubhead, compressing downward like actual turf, thereby simulating the real conditions of golf. Off the course, it doesn’t get more realistic than this.

FairwayPro Golf Mat System

Have you ever noticed how it’s impossible to hit fat shots at the driving range? That’s because those hard range mats aren’t as forgiving as real turf. Instead of taking a big divot and watching your ball come up thirty yards short of the green, the clubhead bounces off the range mat and catches the ball thin. The ball takes off and sometimes it looks like you’ve managed to hit a reasonably good shot. The only sign that something went wrong with your swing is the shock felt in your hands, wrists, and arms. In short, standard range mats give poor shot feedback.

The FairwayPro addresses this problem with it’s brilliantly innovated “sliding turf” mechanism. This ingenious mat mimics the actual forward motion of real turf giving way to the force of the clubhead. But instead of producing a divot, the FairwayPro mat slides forward on impact, before snapping back into place ready for your next shot. Check out the video to the right to see just how it works.

The people behind this product have labelled it “a divot simulator” because it allows you to hit down and through the ball (the optimal angle of approach which creates the divot on a real course) creating compression and gaining realistic analysis on the quality of your shot.

Not only does the FairwayPro enhance your practice time with added realism, it also imparts less stress on your body than a standard mat, greatly reducing the risk of injury.

All-in-all, this an exciting golf mat that will not only help you improve your game via improved shot feedback, but also bring a greater level of enjoyment to your practice sessions.

36″ X 60″ XL Super Tee Golf Mat – Holds A Wooden Tee

TT3660 Monster Tee Golf Turf

The Monster Tee Golf Turf operates in a similar fashion to the Real Feel golf mat using dense fibers, termed “spring crimped nylon,” to create a cushion that reduces clubhead bounce and minimizes impact stress on the body.

The Monster Tee has a thin urethane underside which reduces it to almost half the weight of its equivalent size in the Country Club Real Feel range. Although it may not have the heavy-duty feel of its costlier competitor, the Monster Tee Golf Turf will also accept a real golf tee removing the necessity to hit from a predetermined height.

Callaway FT Launch Zone Mat

This portable mat by market-leader Callaway is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a cheap but durable hitting surface.

At 8″ X 16″ it’s one of the smallest mats on the market, but don’t let that put you off. The tough rubber underside is heavy enough to prevent the mat from sliding around — unless you make the type of swing that would dig up a bucket-sized divot out on the course!

Although Callaway has tried to design this mat with the beginner in mind (see slopping front edge that minimizes chance of club-mat collision on the downswing), the Launch Zone is probably too small, and possibly too intimidating, for new or hopelessly inept players. Have at least some experience and swing competence before buying the Launch Zone.

The cons of purchasing the Callaway FT Launch Zone are few, however, some consumers have reported that the mat emits an unrelenting rubbery odor that doesn’t appear to subside after sustained use — maybe something to consider if you’re buying this product to use indoors, but it is hardly of great concern if you plan to use it in the garage or yard.

Double Depth Instructional Video

What will I receive when I order an 8′ wide double depth green? What assembly is required?

You will receive three pieces of ½” thick material (one 8′ putting surface that will already be seamed together, and two 4′ sub-base pieces). You will also receive the components to assemble your green once you receive it. We cut the two sub-base pieces slightly longer than the top putting surface to ensure they will fit properly after transit. You can easily trim the base (with a simple box cutter or similar knife) to the perfect size once assembled. Please review the Double Depth instructional videos for instructions on permanent and semi-permanent applications. *Please note that all the double depth greens come with no holes pre-cut. A hole cutter is included with the purchase of the double depth green so that you can cut the holes where you would like them after you have adhered the sub-base to the putting surface. *If you order an 8′ wide double depth green the top putting surface will come pre-seamed.

Golf Mats

Golf hitting mats are used to practice your game from the comfort of your home. The best golf mat will simulate the conditions of a real golf range as they help you smash ball after ball thereby giving you a feel of being in a golf course

Just a touch too hard

The putting mat is designed to be used in both directions. One side works on pace, while the other works on both pace and accuracy.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Welling-Putt to anyone looking for a home putting solution. It is offered in three different sizes to fit your space:  10′, 13′ and 21′.  You can purchase your Welling Putt here.

And in case anyone was wondering, Welling-Putt isn’t paying me to write this. I received this as a Christmas gift from my uncle, a scratch golfer who discovered it at a golf course in South Florida.

My First Round on Optishot

Considering I was in my living room with a bit of a DIY setup that included a Pendleton Blanket on a C-Stand for my net, I opted for the included foam balls.

My Optishot setup complete with ever-functional Pendleton blanket.

Customization

This is a huge strength and really allows you to tailor your experience to your preferences and practice desires.

Want to play St. Andrews in 40mph wind? Done. Pebble Beach on a gorgeous sunny day without the slightest hint of a breeze? You can do that too.

Practice

This is one of the areas where Optishot 2 really shines, in my opinion.

Playing the courses is great, especially when you get some friends and a few beers in the room.

You can practice on the range or on any course/hole you choose.

In it, one of the frequent challenges is hitting it within a series of expanding rings with the hole in the center.

Survey Your Existing Floor

It is important to be aware of the current flooring in the space.  You will need to investigate the top layer as well as the flooring construction itself. Is the floor concrete, a raised floor or wooden?  Determine whether the floor need to be screed or whether any preparation be required to the underlay in advance of laying a new floor.

Underlay

Underlay is an insulating barrier installed between the structural flooring and the gym flooring you wish to install.

The type of underlay will completely depend upon the level and intensity of usage within the zone or area of the gym.  An underlay may be required in certain zones if the equipment or floor will be at risk of damage. Free weights areas are likely to require an increased level of impact absorption and will hence need a thicker underlay.  In any area where there is a risk of impact to either the floor or equipment, an impact absorption underlay may be required.

Flooring and Equipment Life Cycle

Fitness equipment will often be considered to have a three, five or seven year life cycle depending upon the usage, brand and specifications it has. We would recommend giving the life cycle cost of the flooring consideration at the fit out stage. This means you don’t have to replace the flooring in advance of the equipment in the gym, which could cause a great deal of inconvenience.

Gym Floor Tiles

For medium to thicker flooring (anything above 10mm), simple square tiles are the preferred product option.  It’s important that these are laid professionally as they will usually have to be fastened to the floor. The reason for this is that because they are not interlocking, the edges need to be accurately fastened to ensure there are no gaps or imperfections.

Flooring Rolls

Rubber flooring rolls are often a cheaper option than tiles and installation is much less labour intensive. Depending on the thickness of the flooring, the rolls are made in varying lengths.

Gym flooring rolls are sometimes preferred because they give a much smoother look to the floor because there are fewer joins. Fewer joins also means there is less chance of gaps forming or becoming loose through following of usage.

Gym Floor Colour and Custom Designs

As well offering a massive range of colour options, some of the industry’s most innovative manufacturers have begun offering fully bespoke options. These can include training aides like boxes, agility ladders and functional zones, but can grow to the size of indoor tracks like the one we installed at Xercise4Less. There have even been companies developing ranges of flooring which integrated lighting panels to create innovative new workout options.

Make sure to carefully consider the colours of your flooring per zone. Keep in mind the type of activity that will be carried out and how it fits in with the rest of the decor, as well as the cleaning this zone may require.  With manufacturers using differing techniques for dyeing rubber flooring it’s not uncommon for some poorer quality rubbers to become discoloured after relatively little use.

Fitness Flooring

Fitness flooring needs to be versatile and high performing. This can often incorporate a functional rig within the space.  The flooring required for this will ideally protect the floor below and provide some impact absorption for the equipment and the user. Often, this area will have markings designed and cut into the flooring such as ladders and movement circles.  You will always get some people trying to us this as a free weight area by bring over heavier weights. Please note that, if this does happen it will have a detrimental effect on the flooring.

Even in areas where there will be little heavy weights usage, we would still recommend tiles between 6mm and 10mm to protect the floor and equipment from accidental impacts.

One important feature of this type of flooring is that it needs to be moisture resistant. When flooring tiles aren’t adequately water resistant it can lead to an unpleasant and unhygienic environment. There also needs to be a good level of grip so dynamic movements can be performed safely.

Other Flooring Solutions

Some places opt to use a hard wearing thin carpet under fixed resistance machines or in other areas. The difficulty you face when using carpeted areas is that they are far harder to clean than solid flooring and can become unpleasant after a while.

Linoleum and real wood flooring are also used in some gyms and sports centres. The downside of using one of these classic types of flooring is that they provide very low impact and noise absorption and also don’t provide a particularly good grip.

Most of the treadmills and indoor cycles that we sell are bought along with a mat for underneath. Protective cardio equipment mats are ideal for home equipment that isn’t in a permanent position. These PVC mats are about 6mm thick and provide great grip and protection for the flooring underneath your equipment.

Where to use underfloor heating

Underfloor heating is mostly used in ground-floor rooms but, in reality, there is a system to suit any type of floor construction.

Wet systems are most easily installed where it’s possible to take up floors or where new floors are being constructed, so is likely to suit new extensions, conservatories and new open-plan kitchen-cum-living areas.

Electric underfloor heating is likely to be more suitable for existing rooms as the electrical mesh system is flatter than a wet system so there is less need for floor heights to be altered to accommodate it. There are even electrical mat systems available that can be used under rugs on existing hard floors. On balance, it’s easier to add electric systems to upper-floor rooms.

How to install underfloor heating

For your underfloor heating to be most cost- and energy-efficient, your property needs to be adequately insulated. To prevent heat loss, and to ensure that the heat is directed upwards, there needs to be room for insulation to be installed beneath the system.

With wet systems, make sure you have a space for the controls to be situated (a cupboard will do). Like a radiator, each room heated with UFH has its own valve, but they can all be sited in one spot, along with the timer controls. Most of the plastic water pipes installed in today’s systems are continuous, so there is no danger of leaks as there are no joints – and the system is generally considered to be maintenance-free.

Flooring considerations

UFH can be used with almost all types of flooring, even carpet, providing that the carpet and underlay have a thermal resistance of less than 2.tog. Indications show that, for the majority of carpet styles, the thermal resistance will be less than tog.

Country Home and Interiors

Eco-friendliness

Not all PVC mats are created equally. Some are manufactured without phthalates and other toxins. However there are no PVC mats that are biodegradable.

Newer more eco-friendly options include recycled and natural rubber, organic or natural cotton, and jute. Rubber mats are the most popular eco-friendly option, but you should avoid rubber if you’re allergic to latex.

Cotton is the most absorbent mat material, which is important if you sweat a lot or plan to practice hot yoga. Cotton mats tend to cost a bit more, but are also available in a more affordable rug style. Jute mats feature an organic surface texture which prevents slippage naturally.

Bike Trainer Basics

Think of a bike trainer as being like having access to a spin class, but in the comfort of your own home.

Some people use bike trainers for practice before marathons or competitions, whereas others tend to use it as a substitute for riding outside if the weather is unfavorable.  Either way, a bike trainer can provide a high quality workout, and in many cases providers the rider with a more difficult and challenging ride, than riding outdoors.

What to Look for in a Bike Trainer

Today, there are a lot of turbo trainers or bike trainers in the market, each more fancy, well equipped or expensive than the other. To decide which one is best for you, keep the following in mind:

The intensity of your workouts. If you are a beginner to biking, perhaps a more entry level bike trainer would be best for you. If you are training for more serious races and need precision in your efforts levels, then a more advanced bike trainer with a power meter might be worth the extra investment.

Noise factor. Wind resistance trainers may be cheap, but can be much noisier. Similarly, fluid trainers are relatively less noisy but are far more expensive.  If you are working out in an apartment with two roommates, you might need to opt for quiet.  If you have a nice workout room that is relatively secluded, your options might be more.

All of these factors, including space to store the trainer, etc., play into your decision of buying a particular bike trainer.

Kinetic Rock and Roll Trainer

Kinetic trainers have been synonymous with indoor cycling for years.

Kinetic makes one of the most popular and high-quality bike trainers in the entire world. Bike trainer veterans claim that Kinetic is worth the money and the steep upfront cost that might seem daunting at first. Almost all of their trainers are acclaimed to be brilliant pieces of technology. Amongst their trainers is the Rock and Roll bike trainer that is by far one of the most sold and appreciated ones in the bike trainer industry.

What makes it so different from all the others is that it gives a more realistic ride than most other trainers. Even though a bike trainer is meant to keep the bike stationary, it is not as realistic as real riding. With this trainer, the bike can be swayed left to right exactly the way you would in an outdoor riding experience. Apart from this unique feature, the fluid resistance unit is one of the best in the market, and it slows even beginners to control and adjust resistance according to their needs.

Thought it is a significantly large trainer and is rather pricey, the feel of the bike ride and the exceptional fluid resistance mechanism make this a must have for enthusiasts.  Find it here.

Other Trainer Accessories

In addition to the trainer itself, you might want to consider a few other accessories.

Training videos. In our opinion, these are indispensable and the reason you get a trainer.  There are several series of Cycling DVDs out there that will help you get the most out of our workouts. Having a focused training session will turn your trainer session into a spin class.  Done right, these will be incredible workouts.  You can usually find ones that are anywhere from 30 minutes to more than 90 minutes long, and they can either be in DVD form or streamed to a device or TV.  We recommend having at least 5-to choose from, as your available time and desired intensity will vary from day to day.  Our favorites tend to be the Spinervals series.

Trainer tire.  The problem with using your bike on a trainer is that it can really wear out a tire.  The friction of a tire on the trainer creates a lot of heat,

Trainer tires are designed for the heat of a bike trainer, and allow you to save your more expensive riding tires.

Grill Friends Silicone Brush

Silicone brushes are the best thing to happen to barbecue since the charcoal briquet. I long ago relegated my natural and nylon bristle brushes to cleaning computer keyboards. Silicone brushes load up with lots of sauce, deliver it evenly, and are easy to clean and decontaminate. They are dishwasher safe. We have three: One for barbecue, one my wife uses for egg washes and other baking, and one for whatever. There are many brands on the market.   Meathead

There are pros and cons to using a cover.

Pros. They keep rain, snow, wasps, birds, and other vermin out. If you have a shinyt stainless steel rig, it will keep it shinier. An expensive grill under cover will attract fewer thieves.

Cons. They are a bit of a pain because you have to wait til the grill cools and they gather rain when left off. But they can also trap moisture and humidity underneath and actually encourage rust and mold growth. For these reasons I cover only my grills and smokers that can collect water on the inside like my Weber Smokey Mountain, my Hasty Bake, and my pellet smoker (if the pellets ever melt and then dry out, getting your smoker up and running is an all day sucker).

Cheapo covers last only a year or two. A good cover will last five years or more. All the plastic or vinyl ones I’ve tried cracked and fell apart in two to three years. The canvas covers rotted in a few years. The best were canvas laminated or impregnated with polyurethane or PVC.   Meathead

Weber’s Grill Pan Sears and Allows Smoke Through

Another favorite grill topper is the Weber Style Grill Pan, and I was pleased to see the folks at Cooks Illustrated agree. It has plenty of slots for smoke to travel through, and plenty of surface to brown things like salmon cakes.   Meathead

Lodge Logic Pro Cast Iron Griddle Can Put a Gorgeous Sear on Salmon, Steak, or Use It For Pancakes And Eggs

You need a good cast iron griddle. Especially if you like fish, burgers, grilled sandwiches, home fries, or pancakes. Coat the flat side with oil, and you can sear fish so it is golden and crispy on the outside just like that great pan-seared fish you get in restaurants. Throw some dried herbs onto the flame, and you’ll get a whisp of smoke in the meat.

You can even bring it indoors and it will straddle two burners. Use the flat side for pancakes. Flip it over and you get grill marks and conduction cooking from the ridges on steaks, burgers, or asparagus, and the fats and juices drip into the grooves where they vaporize and flavor the meat and cook by radiation.

This is a very handy tool. One word of caution. You may need two. If you use it for fish a lot, the flavor will remain on the surface, even after cleaning, so you won’t be able to use it for pancakes.

I have two of them by Lodge, known for quality cast iron, and I use the ridged sides of both, one on top and one on the bottom, for making paninis. And my spatchcocked (butterflied) Cornish game hens pressed between the flat sides are unbelievably crisp and juicy in only 20 minutes. It is 20″ x 7/16″.   Meathead

Lodge Cast Iron Panini Press Makes World Class Paninis And Grilled Cheese

These flat weights are great for making grilled cheese sandwiches and other paninis, and even bacon. When I make sandwiches I preheat the press on high on the side burner, and then put the sandwich on the grill grates and the hot press on top so I can cook both sides at once. You can use them for keeping bacon from curling up on the grill with these, too. The Lodge model is preseasoned. Although the handle is supposed to provide heat protection, wear a glove.   Meathead

Thermoworks Timestick Is The Best Cook’s Stopwatch And Alarm

I keep a cooking diary. In it I write down vital info about every cook so I can learn what works and what doesn’t. OK. So I’m anal. But being anal got me this gig. The two most important variables to track in any cook are time and temp. So I used to wear a stopwatch around my neck when I cooked. Click when I fire up. Click when it is up to temp. Click when the meat goes on. Click when I add more wood or charcoal. Click when I turn. Click when I sauce. Click when I take it off. But have you seen the new digital stopwatches? They are a real pain with faaaar too many features and bells and whistles. My last one sat in my desk between cooks and beeped every hour and the only way I could make it shut up was with a hammer. True story. Now I use the very sinple user friendly Timestick.

It can count down or up and when a count down alarm sounds, the count up timer starts so you can see how much time has elapsed since your alarm. It’s range is 9hours 9minutes and 9seconds, there is a keypad lock so you don’t accidentally screw things up, there’s a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck, it comes in nine colors, it’s splash proof, and it has a magnet on back so I can stick it to my grill, fridge, or oven. Operates between 3and 104°F. Best of all, you won’t need to read the manual. Love it.   Meathead

Knob Where You Need It Makes Grilling Safer And Easier

You’re supposed to turn off the propane tank between cooks to prevent expensive leaks and more expensive explosions. But many grills don’t have easy access to the tanks, and it sure is easy to forget. Knob Where You Need It makes it easy to turn off the gas and easy ti remember. There are no instructions in the box so you need to go to their website. I suggest printing them. Installation is easy for most people (I made a dumb mistake). Please note: You need to drill a 1/2″ hole in your grill. Watch the video below to see the installation process. – Greg Rempe

Lafuma Futura Zero Gravity Chair, Black Steel Frame, Cedre

The famous French recliner by Lafuma. I own two of them, and, man, are they comfortable. Park it next to the cooler, pour a cold one into your stein, set your remote temperature monitor on top of the cooler, and relaxxxxxx. There are cheaper knockoffs, but I haven’t tried them yet.   Meathead

Chimney Cap

Most kamado smokers have an airflow control/chimney at the top that is very good at controlling the oven temp. They have one innate flaw: When it rains, water gets into the cooking chamber! If you have a Big Green Egg, Primo, or Kamado Joe, or any other leaky kamado, here’s the solution. Made from aluminum, it is simple and effective.   Meathead

FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer

The best way to store food more than a week is in the freezer. Foods lose few nutirents and little quality when frozen. But if they are kept for longer than a few weeks, meats can oxidize, fats can get rancid, and the surface can harden from freezer burn. Especially pork and seafood. Oxygen is the enemy. So I pack food for storage is with a vacuum sealer like the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer. You put the food in a plastic bag, insert it into the machine and it sucks out the air and seals the bag. Make sure you mark the date on the bag. It is a great way to store cooked foods too. Put your pulled pork in the bag, add a little sauce and seal. When it is time to serve, place the bag into a pot of simmering water. It reheats rapidly and tastes almost as good as when it came out of the smoker.   Meathead

Grill Grabber

Use a Grill Grabber to lift your hot and dirty grill grates, even if there’s the food still on them. I use mine when I need to add coals, wood, water to water pans, or to rescue food that has dropped through the grates. This may seem like a frivolity, but it is a thoroughly useful tool.   Meathead

OXO Good Grips Tongs

Dishwasher safe stainless steel with OXO’s popular nonslip rubber handles, they are the winner of the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. They are spring loaded and the ends are scalloped for better gripping. There is a loop for hanging and a mechanism that locks them in closed position for storing (which has failed after several years on all three pairs that I have). Regardless, they are still my faves. I just store them with a cardboard toilet paper core over the ends.

The 18″ tongs don’t have the locking mechanism, but they are necessary if you have a deep pit. But be warned, the longer the tongs, the less leverage you have and the harder it is to get a grip. I also recommend their nylon tipped tongs for use on non-stick cookware.

LamsonSharp Fish Tongs

A jumbo hybrid of tongs and spatulas, this is the proper tool for flipping fish, burgers, and other crumbly foods. Rosewood handle protects you against the heat, and there is a leather loop for hanging. They come with a lifetime warranty. I find them to be indispensable.   Meathead

Stiff Metal Spatula

Spatulae come in slotted and solid, and I recommend the solid with a good insulated sturdy handle. The solid is best for pressing things down on a griddle, like when you are making Diner Burgers on a griddle or in a frying pan. I like the Weber Style 644Professional-Grade Fish Turner.  Meathead

Double Pie Iron

Here’s how to make two perfectly toasted panini style grilled sandwiches at once. Use this old fashioned double pie iron, originally designed for filled pies, for everything from Grilled Cheese to Pulled Pork.

Just butter your sandwich on the outside, open up the hinged mold, insert the sandwiches and put it over the coals, campfire, or gas grill. This Old Mountain cast iron double square pie iron is 1/2″ x 1/4″ and is pre-seasoned and ready to use. The long handle allows you to grill in comfort away from a camp fire.  – Meathead

My wife hasn’t noticed the burn hole yet. It’s pretty substantial. For the life of me I don’t understand why the deck didn’t go up in flames and take the house with it. Must be some sort of flame retardant in the wood. But a hunk of charcoal somehow jumped from my grill and tried to escape before I caught it. But not before it burned a serious hole.  Meathead

Bayou Classic 8.Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Forget the fancy high end pricey Le Cruset French Oven, this is the one you want for cowboy cooking and camping, and it comes in handy around the house. It’s perfect for whole chickens or slow braising in the oven or in the grill.

You can even sit it on top of coals and shovel more coals on top of the flat lid with a raised rim, and you can cook classic chili, baked beans, cornbread, casseroles, and even cobblers. It is 13″ wide x 7″ high, weighs 2pounds and includes a perforated aluminum basket for steaming, frying, or boiling.   Meathead

Kitchen shears

You want good stiff scissors for cutting a chicken apart, for snipping herbs, cutting pizza, butcher string, opening packages, and many other tasks. Get sturdy stainless blades so you can cut through the ribs of chickens. The best models come apart at the hinge so they can go in the dishwasher and you can get them really clean.   Meathead

Garlic press

When a recipe calls for garlic to be crushed, minced, or pressed, I use a garlic press. A good garlic press releases more oils and flavors than mincing with a knife and pressed garlic coats the food more evenly than mincing.

A good garlic press is an important kitchen tool. Get one that is sturdily built, that is easy to grip, that is easy to clean, and has a large hopper to hold big cloves. Avoid non-stick models. I have a well-used Trudeau Garlic Press  Meathead

Digital kitchen scale

I don’t know how I lived without a good, accurate digital kitchen scale for so many years. It is so important. Look at salt for example, cup of table salt has almost twice as much salinity as a cup of Morton’s kosher salt because Morton’s kosher salt has more air space between the grains. But a pound of all salts contain exactly the same amount of sodium chloride.

Without a scale, making a brine requires a calculator. Flour and sugar have the same problem. Packed brown sugar or loose brown sugar. Big diff. Ever try to measure a tablespoon of honey? Did you get it all into the bowl or leave a lot of it on the spoon. There are plenty of conversion tables out there that help you convert. My favorite is the OXO Good Grips Stainless Food Scale with Pull-Out Display.  It can weight accurately up to 1pounds as well as fractions of an ounce. Push a button and it converts to metric. Put the bowl on the scale and push a button and it zeros out so the bowl’s weight is not included. The top comes off for easy cleaning. It will significantly improve your cooking.   Meathead

Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover

I first heard about this from a competition cook. To say I was skeptical is an understatement. A spot remover that will remove the grease stains on almost all my shirts is something I considered to be as elusive as unicorns and perpetual motion machines. So I bought a ounce bottle and tried it on one of my t-shirts.

The instructions say that all you need is just a drop. Sure. I used three drops. My shirt came out so clean I could not find where the stain had been originally. So I tried it on a dress shirt, but fearful it would ruin it, I used only one drop. Again, the grease was gone! So I hauled out all my saucy and greasy shirt, 1in all, put Grandma to work, tossed them all into one tub, and before long, I had a new wardrobe. Utterly amazing stuff. And just for the record, I have been doing my own laundry since I went away to college, even through 40 years of marriage. May be a contributing factor to our longevity.

Even my wife is impressed with Grandma. She has used it on some of her finery including her Mom’s table cloth with ancient spaghetti stains, stains that Oxi-Clean, her go to remover, couldn’t handle.

The label says it is good for “oil, grease, paint, makeup, grass, inks, blood, baby formula, tar, spaghetti sauce, coffee, rust, beadine, tumeric, fabric bleed, and pet stains”. The only caveat on the label is to “check garment for colorfastness.”   Meathead
