What is the Slope Measurement Feature on a Laser Rangefinder?
Are Rangefinders With Slope Legal for Competition Play?
The local rule allows the use of distance measuring devices. These include laser rangefinders, golf GPS watches, handheld GPS devices or Smartphone Apps. If your rangefinder device measures any other conditions such as Slope, wind speed or plays like features. These features need to be turned off or disabled to make them legal for competition play. If you are unable to disable these features, your rangefinder device is not legal for competition play. However, they are perfectly legal for practice play.
Precision Pro Golf NXPro Laser Rangefinder
The NXPro is so quick and responsive. It takes less than a second to find the target and then it vibrates once the target is found. The Precision NXP Pro has modes, standard mode and slope mode. I like this. They keep it nice and simple. Too many modes and features can take you away from what you need to focus on that that is yardage. Finding the correct yardage is the key purpose of a rangefinder.
It comes with a nice and solid carry case, a hook so you can clip it to your bag. It also includes a clean cloth which comes in handy.
Bushnell Pro X2
You can also view the distances in yards or meters. This is handy if you grew up on a course that;s in meters. You can also change the brightness on the scope to make the readings easier to read. A feature that other Bushnell models has lacked.
The Pro Xdisplays readings in options, Red or Black. This might seem like nothing much, but believe me it helps. Red is usually best, however in a bright setting the red is sometimes be difficult to read.
Like most Bushnell rangefinders, the Bushnell pro Xcomes with the cool rangefinder case. Bushnell supply the best rangefinders cases hands down. The Bushnell cases are strong, durable, nicely designed. The Bushnell rangefinder cases just attract attention. Having one of these clipped onto your golf bag will make your playing partners jealous.
The Bushnell Pro Xis one of the best Bushnell rangefinders for a number of reasons. It performs its key responsibilities so well but the additional features make you want this rangefinder. The slope switch is a feature is excellent and option to read in Red or Black adds a nice touch.
Bushnell Pro XSlope
The Pro Xalso has incredible ranging capability, from to 550 yards for a flagstick.
The Bushnell Pro XSlope comes with a very strong and eye catching carry case. The carry case is strong, durable and excellent quality. They’ve added an elastic hook and eye to make it even easier to access when you’re on the course
The majority of the features of the Xwill be familiar to those who know the Bushnell Pro Mand Bushnell Tour VSlope edition. The advanced features of the Pro XSlope make this one of the most popular rangefinders on the market and of the best rangefinders with Slope. The Pro XSlope is designed for serious golfers. If you are just a weekend golfer, it might be too much tech and money to be used a couple times a month.
GolfBuddy LR5S Golf Laser Rangefinder with Slope
I like giving underdogs a shot. If you read my best laser rangefinder review, you will probably not be very familiar with some of the brands I recommended. The GolfBuddy LR5S Laser Golf Rangefinder is an excellent and one of the best rangefinders with slope out there. Bushnell currently dominates the slope rangefinders list, as few brands have yet to do the job well enough to recommend as of yet.
The LR5S displays both the actual distance to the target and the estimated yardage compensating for slope. If you are a member of a hilly golf course you will know how difficult it can be to get this right. After taking some notes or remembering the slope by memory while practicing, you can put this info to use to lower your scores.
You have modes on the GolfBuddy LR5S, standard mode, scan mode and pin mode. Each one of these can be easily selected. The reason the Golf Buddy LR5S has made my best rangefinder with slope list is the scan feature. By activating scan mode, you can scan you target and the area surrounding the target. This feature is excellent when you are trying to find out how much yardage you have from the pin and the front of the green. This is a huge in my option. One of the main advantages of owning a golf GPS watch over a laser rangefinder is the ability to get the yardage to the front, center and back of the green. This changes everything, and it will appeal to golfers who struggle to trust GPS watch yardages.
The Scan Mode technology paired with Pin Mode makes it one of the best laser rangefinders with slope on the market. Pin Mode locks onto the flagstick very easily. What was most surprising was how well Pin Mode performed regardless of the objects behind the flagstick. Many rangefinders with pin seeking technology still tend to struggle with trees of bushes behind the target. This is not the case with the Golf Buddy LR5S.
Bushnell Tour VSlope
When you turn the slope on, it displayed the degree difference and slope adjusted yardage right below the actual yardage. It made it easy to view and worked well. Personally, I like to use more feel and tend to trust myself more than a slope adjusted yardage, but it’s still a nice feature to have.
I think the Tour VSlope version is a worthy upgrade and is the one to go for because it will add more value to your game. The fact it can be disabled until such time as the Golfing Officials change their minds means that it does everything you could want a laser rangefinder to do.
BUSHNELL TOUR X
Although the slope feature is illegal for competition play, you can take note of the changes in elevation for future reference. You can assume a lot of us are joined at a course and will play the same course regularly. When you are out practicing, take notes of changes in elevation.

Rangefinders for Rifle Hunting
When you are hunting with a rifle, it is quite different than with a bow hunting that is because rifle covers a larger distance than a bow. So, the rangefinder you are using should also have the ability to reach longer distance. They are bigger than the bow hunting one and used horizontally. Best rifle hunting rangefinders are more advanced so that they can provide more accurate distance analyzing different readings. When you are buying a rifle hunting rangefinder two things you should give importance is the magnification and the optics.
This means that you can use the rangefinder both for bow hunting and for rifle hunting. The common feature of this type is that it should cover more than 1000 yards. They have angle compensation that allows you to use them for both the weapons. They also have great magnification and optics features.
So, at first be sure whether you are going for bow hunting or rifle hunting and then use a rangefinder that is more suitable for your weapon.
How to Choose the Best Rangefinder for Hunting and for Other Purpose (Ultimate Buying Guide)
When you are to purchase a product naturally, you will want to get the best one. For a rangefinder, this method is not the different. You have to find the best rangefinder for hunting so that you can get the best service from it. But finding the best one among the vast number of brands and models is not an easy task.
So, what is the best rangefinder for hunting? Well, you have to do a lot of research to be sure that you are choosing the best one. But doing research is a matter of time. I know none of us have time to do research before purchasing a product. Don’t worry; we will help you with that. Here we are making a list of consideration that will help you to find the best rangefinder very quickly and also save your valuable time.
Infrared rangefinders are a little bit similar to the laser rangefinders. They emit light beams to measure the distance. They use triangulation when the IR light is set off to your target. The object that you are targeting reflects back the light and creates a triangular angle between the emitter, the detector and the point of reflection. They come at an affordable price and they have low consumption on the battery life.
Laser rangefinders are more expensive but, you get what you paid for. They are just amazing. They can give more accurate result than any other rangefinders. You can use them as monocular or binoculars depending on their model.
Like the infrared rangefinders, they also work the same way. The object has to reflect back the light so that the device can determine the distance. For that reason, it may be quite difficult to get the accurate result in low light or dark situations. If the weather is foggy or it is raining, you will get inaccurate results.
The range is the most important thing that you have to consider when you are purchasing a rangefinder as you will mostly use it for calculating the distance between you and your target. How far you can see with the device depends on the range. The maximum range listed in the packet of the rangefinder is the maximum range that you can spot a target and calculate the distance. So you have to check the range capacity that is listed in the packet.
Reticle maintains the visibility of a rangefinder. The reticle is also called the aiming point that you can see through your rangefinder. Whether your rangefinder is suitable for low light or daylight depends on the reticle. And the reticle’s visibility if the device has black lines or illuminated by LED lights.
If your rangefinder has black lines, then it is best for daylights. You can see clearly through it in the daylight. Also, you have the backlight that means you can see anything at any setting but not 100% clearly. This would be good for you if you are mostly using it during day time.
Illuminated reticle allows you to see clearly even in low light settings. You can also see in bright light but sometimes it becomes invisible in the bright setting.
Magnification is another important factor to keep in mind while you are buying the best rangefinder. You have to spot a target that is more than 1000 yards away from you. And without the magnification, you would not be able to spot a target that is far far away from you. And if it can’t show things at far distance then why should you use it?
For strictly bow hunting a rangefinder with 4x magnification is ideal. If you are in rifle hunting, then you have to use more magnification. Best rangefinder for rifle hunting has a 7x magnification and even more. Don’t ignore it while purchasing a rangefinder. This will add advantages to your rangefinder. So keep it in mind.
Size and Weight
Depending on your equipment that you are going to use in hunting you should consider the size and the weight of the rangefinder that you are going to purchase.
Such as, for bow hunting, it is common to take a lot of gears with you. You have to bring quiver, arrows, hunting bag and other small accessories. So the rangefinder you will use should be compact in size and lightweight as you won’t want to have any gathering.
Design is not that much important in terms of choosing the best one. But you can’t totally ignore it. You have to find a compact design for better transportation. And the most important think about design is the color. Color means a great value to the hunting. For hunting, the color should be black or camouflage. And the device must be made of waterproof and weather-resistant materials.
Angle Compensation is another factor that you have to consider. It gives you more accurate distance calculation. But all the models don’t have this feature, and they can greatly affect your hunting experience. Your hunting may not be that much successful if you use a rangefinder that doesn’t have angle compensation.
If you really need this feature, then you should go for a laser rangefinder. It has the feature included and gives you more accurate distance reading accounting the angle between you and your target so that you can make even better shoot.

Technology and Features
Some of the chief features you should look for when deciding on a rangefinder are; pin seeking technology, long accuracy range, quality magnification, and ease-of-use. When it comes to pin seeking technology if you want the most out of what modern technology has to offer, you must buy a model that has this feature. In most cases the longer the range of your device the more accurate it will be over shorter distances. A sufficient amount of magnification will give users the ability to see close and far distances with the same amount of ease. Lastly, you do not want to buy a rangefinder that is difficult or cumbersome to use. Choose the features that are most important to you and ensure that you get those features when you set out to buy a rangefinder.
Things To Consider First
Before we delve into the rangefinders, it is important that we answer a very important question. How do you choose the best golf rangefinder from all of them? Well there are several factors to consider when you are doing so.
Bushnell Tour VGolf Rangefinder
In a game of golf, you need more than your eyes to get the distant targets perfectly. You need some aid and you will get this from a rangefinder. The Bushnell Tour VGolf Rangefinder is one of a kind with unique features that makes it rank higher than most other models.
It also has 5x magnification and single hand vertical operation. One of the cool things about Vis the Pin Seeker Technology with Jolt Vibration. This feature is activated each time the Pin Seeker is triggered. A lot of users also enjoyed the ergonomic design on this model. Featuring a 3-volt battery and a scan mode which lets users scan continuously. It comes with a carrying case to make it easier to lug around.
The Jolt Vis also accurate to within 1-yard. Overall, this is a very good rangefinder which is very well balanced. Although it is not waterproof, it is weather resistant. Keep that in mind as some people confuse the two. Users find this model to be very well built, rugged and sturdy. Just point and click and you are on your way to making your golf game that much better.
Bushnell Tour X Golf Rangefinder

Of course the red faceplate needs to be engaged in order to do that. This device is also USGA compliant which is very important when considering purchasing one. In order to use this feature though, the black faceplate needs to be engaged.
Bushnell Tour ZGolf Rangefinder
Bushnell have been manufacturing some of the best rangefinders. Here they are again this time with another one that you will love; the ZGolf Laser Rangefinder. This Tour ZJolt is a significant upgrade from the previous
Elkton Outdoors 650 Golf Rangefinder
The Elkton 65has a magnification of 6x and a speed measuring range of 0-190Mile/Hr (0-300KM/Hr). It is one of the least expensive units on the market we have covered thus far. While it may lack some of the other features the more costlier models offer, it still packs a punch. The measuring range is 6-600M distance and it has a 905nm laser type. This device only weighs 2.ounces with 5.x 2.x 3.inches dimensions.
The Uineye Golf Rangefinder
Unlike some other models in this price range, the Uineye laser rangefinder offers a few more features for about the same price. For one, the ranging distance is to 1600 yards. That is almost double the amount of other models we reviewed. The yard accuracy is +/- 0.3In addition, the magnification is at 8x, as opposed to the 6x others offer. The range increase in both yard and magnification, does allow for farther range reach.
The Uineye also measures several different angles between -90° and +90°with +/- 0.35° of accuracy. We found the multiple measurement modes very useful as well. They are Angle/distance/height and horizontal distance measurements. There is also a continuous scan mode of multiple targets. The design is what you would expect from a rangefinder with a comfortable grip. It is lightweight, with an easy to read display as well. This is a great unit for those looking for one which has a lot of useful features.
TecTecTec VPRO500S Slope Golf Rangefinder
The 201version is Edition Tournament Legal and conforms to USGA Rule 14-Users can take full advantage of the Pinslope technology found on this unit. That function provides the player with actual distance with or without slope. We found this unit to be a good purchase worth considering based on all of the factors. Those are features, reviews, pricing and user satisfaction.
The Bushnell Pro XJolt Slope Golf Rangefinder
This unit delivers 1/2-yard accuracy from ranges of to 12yards and +/-deg of angle. We found the difference it makes on a 150-yard uphill shot. The six deg actually plays at 16total yards. That means that without slope compensation, most players would come up about 1yards short. It is waterproof and very easy to grip. The slope technology can be turned on or off so that it can be legal in tournament play.
Laser rangefinder is the most popular rangefinder among golfers due to its ease of use and ability to understand it. Laser rangefinder uses laser technology to send a beam of laser light from the handset to the target and the laser is then reflected back to the handset. This rangefinder calculates distance between the handset and the target object based on the time taken by the laser beam to travel to the target object and back to the laser golf rangefinder. This rangefinder is designed to be easy to use even by the beginners and non-techie players. It has an easy learning curve which a beginner can easily interpret and put into use.
Easy setup: This rangefinder is designed to have easy out-of-the-box set up. It comes with easy configurations that doesn’t need a technician to set right.
Portable: This rangefinder has a compact design like that of a binoculars making it easy to carry around. Accuracy: The accuracy level of laser rangefinder is one major booster of this rangefinder. It is most effective when used on a low-land golf course and under normal environmental conditions. You can spot a target object a hundred meters away with ease.
Magnification function: Just like a binoculars, laser rangefinder comes handy with magnification function. By using laser beam rangefinder, you are assured of a 2-in-benefit as you can magnify the yardage and feature. This helps you hit the target with ease.
Long battery life: It is common sense that you don’t need a device that you will be leaving the golf course every now and then to charge your rangefinder. Laser beam rangefinder comes handy with a long-life battery that ensures you play your entire match without fuss.
Tree and hills: One of the major problems laser rangefinder users experience is targeting objects behind hills and trees. This device has difficulties locating the right target located behind trees and hills. In such a scenario, opt for other devices such as hybrid rangefinder.
Do own calculations: You should not wholly depend on the rangefinder’s calculations. For instance, this device has issues locating the green target, hence it may give you wrong green distance. Based on such details, you will make a misinformed shot. It is advised that you double-check the calculations.
Accuracy: One major booster of this GPS rangefinder is the ability to give very accurate information which is essential in taking your shots.
Green distance measurement: While the laser rangefinder has issues measuring the green distance, the GPS rangefinder is ideal for giving you accurate green point distance. It gives details of front, middle and back green points.
GPS Technology: The fact that this device runs of positioning system technology, you aren’t required point the device at your target at a steady pace to get the yardages. GPS technology goes ahead to generate the golf course’s holes layout for you. This is ideal especially when you are in unfamiliar golf courses.
Easy set-up: Like the laser rangefinder, this device is easy to set up. Moreover, it retrieves the measurements automatically once you activate it. However, the learning curve is not as easy as that of laser rangefinder.
Additional features: This range-finding device comes with additional features that help you make right decisions. These features include game statistics and scorecards which help you track you game.
Golf GPS Handheld
Golf Handheld GPS rangefinders are devices designed to measure yardages. However, these rangefinders have today been packed with advanced features that help golfers in course management. This device uses the Global Positioning Systems technology to determine distance between two points. The GPS technology relies on satellites to feed the rangefinder on the respective target points, and this way it is able to calculate the distance.
Golf Handheld GPS rangefinder is easy to out-of-the-box set up and operate. It has labelled buttons that make operation easier, thus making it possible for an amateur to use. The readings and information displayed on the screen is easy to read. This rangefinder comes with a large and very bright LCD screen. This makes it easier for you to read information on the screen. This LCD screen has a backlight feature that lights up the screen to make readings visible even in dark environments.
GPS Rangefinder is a very light device. This makes it very portable and easy to walk with even when walking around the golf course. Do not however mistake this device for being light. It’s simple to use with a one button to get the distance straight away or you can use the pin seeker feature which works quite well.
The accuracy of this rangefinder was like the TecTecTec above, it worked constantly well always about right only up to a few yards off which is solid especially considering the price of this rangefinder.
It’s worth mentioning that once in a while when trying to lock onto the flag I had problems and I needed multiple attempts for it to work. Though for the most part that didn’t happen too often.
This rangefinder comes with an included carrying case which is useful as I store the rangefinder in the same compartment of my bag as my golf balls and tees so that helped keep it protected from damaging them.

The Vfeatures 5x magnification, Slope Technology, and the Fast Focus System. This device can give you an accurate reading on distances that are anywhere between and 1000 yards, and it comes with a CRbattery.
The XL450 from Halo is yet another popular rangefinder on the market. Although Halo does not have the same brand awareness about it than some of the other companies such as Nikon, Halo is fast becoming a leader in the field of rangefinders, with more famous and professional golfers using their products.
Additionally, the product line offered by Halo is also considerably less expensive than other models on the market, which can make a big difference if you are shopping on a budget.
The XL450 may be an underdog, but that doesn’t mean you should discount its effectiveness for getting the job done.
Bushnell Tour ZLaser Golf Rangefinder with JOLT
Until recently, one of our favourite rangefinders in the game of golf was the Bushnell Tour Zoriginal. A simple, solid product which ticked all the right boxes. And then, one day, Bushnell decided to go one better: the Tour ZLaser Rangefinder with JOLT technology. There’s some stiff competition out there, but, all things considered, this one simply blew us away.
To top it off, it comes in a petite little size, but one which still grips perfectly in the hand. There just isn’t a weak link to this rangefinder, which is why we had no hesitation in declaring it as our Editor’s Choice.
Scoreband Vibe SL600 Rangefinder
We think this is one of the finds of 2017, particularly for beginners and/or those who don’t want to spend a fortune. Scoreband isn’t a brand name that’s widely synonymous with golf rangefinders, but with the new Vibe SL600, we think they are well on their way to making a name for themselves.
But it is the slope technology which is particularly cool, as it factors in contours and undulations to make your readings more realistic, and accurate in a relative sense. Maybe this won’t be beneficial for everyone, but if you’re starting to get a good handle on your distance control, this could help give you that extra bit of precision you need.
But, aside from the bells and whistles, it’s a great product at ground level too. Acquiring targets is quick. It’s accurate to within a yard. Magnification and range are ample. And it’s a simple, straightforward product to use.
Bushnell Tour VSlope Rangefinder
For technology to continually reach new heights of sophistication, it requires brave pioneers, and it’s fair to say that Bushnell are exactly that. As one of the early adopters of the slope technology, the Tour Vunderpins their commitment to raising the bar.
But while the impressive slope feature is perhaps the one to grab the headlines, one mustn’t lose sight of how impressive this rangefinder is at ground level. Accuracy? Check. Ease of locking in targets, and gleaning measurements? Check. High-quality, cutting-edge design, characteristic of most Bushnell products? Check!
It doesn’t come cheap, but if you’ve got the budget, and are seeking steady improvement in your game over an extended period of time, then there are a lot of reasons why this could be the perfect investment to help the cause.
A laser rangefinder emits pulses between your existing position, and your target(s) of choice. Given that the speed of these pulses are constant, the rangefinder gauges distances by calculating the rebound time from the target back to you. And it all happens incredibly quickly!
The battery life is long lasting
Its design tends to be similar to binoculars, and most have a compact size which makes it easily portable
The accuracy level of this type of rangefinder is unparalleled
It has a high magnification power that will aid you in picking up targets quickly
GPS rangefinders vs Laser rangefinders
On the face of it, laser rangefinders are considerably more accurate than GPS rangefinders when it comes to picking out exact distances to more-specific targets like flagsticks. Scan modes also help to pick out measurements to other objects such as bunkers, hazards and the like.
That said, we are big proponents of laser rangefinders, and not solely due to their refined accuracy. You can use them anywhere, and they are as easy to set up as they are to operate. With a minimum of fuss, you can pick up readings within split seconds; simply by pushing a button, and having a peek through a lens.
Other factors to consider when buying a Laser Rangefinder
In order to choose the best laser rangefinder, it is important to know about the different available options, their attributes, and the overall pros and cons. Based on their application, and how they work, the functionality of the laser rangefinder can be broadly categorized into two types:
Both of these types of rangefinder can be used on a golf course or on hunting grounds. But, having said that, the product whose natural function is to serve your intended purpose is always likely to be more user-friendly. There are thus few laser rangefinders which give you the chance to switch over from second priority to first, and vice versa.
Bushnell Pro XJolt Slope Rangefinder
This rangefinder can measure distances up to one mile away. You will need a really nasty hook to take full advantage of this insane range. The only golf application I can think would require this type of range is seeing how far away the beverage cart is.
It can lock on to the flag from up to 550 yards away, which is handy for when you are thinking about driving the green.
The viewfinder offers 7x magnification, the product is fully waterproof, and there is a limited 2-year warranty.
The Pro XJolt will give you a measurement with precision of up to half a yard.
In addition to measuring basic distance, this model can adjust your yardage automatically to factor in the effect of any changes in slope.
So, if the shot you are measuring is going to be played uphill or downhill, the Bushnell Pro Xwill make the necessary adjustments to the number and provide you with a distance needed to hit the target successfully.
Bushnell Tour VJolt Standard Edition
The Bushnell Tour VJolt rangefinder allows you to make accurate measurements from to 1000 yards with roughly 1-yard accuracy from 300 yards.
The most important feature of the Bushnell Tour Vis it is legal for tournament play!
The Tour Vis able to measure up to 1,000 yards away, and it will pick up the pin from as far as 300 yards back. The viewfinder features 5x magnification, meaning it will be relatively easy to see the landscape up around the green when you are getting your measurement.
This rangefinder boasts measurements to within yard from up to 550 yards away with excellent 6x magnification, kept clear and in focus through incredible performance from its optics.
If you are budget-minded and want to keep the purchase price on your rangefinder to a minimum while still getting a quality piece of gear, the TecTecTec VPRO500 is worth careful consideration.
With a total weight of just 185g, you won’t be adding anything noticeable to your bag. The rangefinder is designed to be dust and water resistant, and it can easily be used with a single hand. With just a little practice, you will be able to pick this unit up, measure your target quickly, and put it back down to proceed with your shot.
Money Back Guarantee
TecTecTec may not be a brand you have learned to trust. To help with this, the company offers a 100% money back guarantee. If you aren’t happy with your purchase for any reason, the unit can simply be returned for a full refund. With this protection in place, it is much easier to try out a model that comes from a brand which isn’t as well-recognized as some of the others on the market.
There are a couple popular types of GPS devices on the market. I break them down into two categories Handheld Devices and Wearable. They all essentially serve the same purpose with the difference being how the course details are displayed and how you carry them around with you. Handheld devices can be carried in a pocket or on the golf cart where as wearables like a GPS Golf Watch are worn on your wrist or wearables like a Skycaddie may be worn on the brim of a hat.
Golf GPS Devices vs Laser Rangefinders
Golf GPS Devices and laser rangefinder serve the same purpose but use different technologies. The technology behind each allows for slightly different benefits.
GPS Devices give the yardage to the front, middle and back pin positions. Laser Rangefinders can the exact yardage (within a yard or two) as long as no obsticals obsruct the view.
GPS Devices rely on maps that are loaded onto a server somewhere whereas rangefinders can give yardage from actual course conditions.
This also allows you to use a laser rangefinder while out on the driving range or during practice sessions.
A GPS watch is fairly easy to use. All you need to do is load the course and the watch does the rest by advancing hole by hole. When you are at your ball, check the watch for the yardage. Operating a laser rangefinder is a bit more involved. It takes a bit of practice and precision to aim the rangefinder at your target and not mistakenly capture something in the foreground/background.
As long as your capture the correct target, a laser rangefinder will be more accurate than a gps watch for golf. Instead of relying on satellites and previously loaded front, middle and back pin locations you are dealing with actual course conditions at the time of play.
Golf Apps vs Laser Rangefinders
In addition to GPS Golf Watches or Handheld GPS Devices, GPS Golf Apps are a popular way to get yardages out on the course. GPS Golf Apps have all the same downsides listed above for GPS Watches in addition to a few more relating to cell coverage on the course and the need to have your phone out during your round.
I prefer to unplug from emails, phone calls and text messages while on the course. If you are on your phone the whole round you are bound to get distracted by push notifications from your inbox, SMS, or your favorite non-golf apps.
Bushnell could very easily be considered the leader in the golf rangefinder business. This popular brand was one of the first into the market when rangefinders began to sweep the golf world, and they are respected for their quality and reliability. These products are seen in the hands of many Tour pros and caddies while they prepare for events, which should tell you everything you need to know. Some of their most popular models include the Tour V4, the Tour X, the Pro X7, and the Tour VDepending on the features you are looking for and the budget you have in mind, there is a good chance that one of these models will fit your requirements nicely.
Tectectec is a French company which offers two laser rangefinders for your consideration – the VPRO500, and the VPRO500 Slope. Again with this brand, we see a rangefinder that can do everything you need in terms of distance measurement on the course. With 6X magnification when looking through the viewfinder and a ‘Pinseeker’ mode to track down your yardage accurately, you should be able to get your number and be on your way in no time at all. Also, the unit is built with rainproof technology to enable it to work well even on those damp days.
If you are looking for selection above all else, look no farther than GolfBuddy. This brand offers up an incredible number of distance measuring devices, meaning you can be picky in choosing the exact model which will suit your needs. Included in their product line are GPS watches, talking GPS devices which tell you the distance to your target audibly, laser rangefinders, handheld GPS models, and more. The GolfBuddy lineup runs the gamut from affordable to high-end, so they should have a product to suit just about any budget.
Golfers looking to pick up a handy piece of technology to aid in distance measuring on the course are going to be lacking for options. The brands listed above are some of the most popular in the game, although there are even more out there to explore. In the end, the goal of your shopping experience should be simple – to settle on a product from a quality brand name that offers all of the features you need for a price you can afford.
Off-Brand Range Finders
First, the basic function of a golf rangefinder is extremely simple – to measure the distance, in yards, between two locations. So, as you stand in the fairway next to your ball, the rangefinder is tasked with measuring the distance between your ball and the flag (or any other object that you are going to use for a target). With that in mind, it might seem like any old rangefinder could do the job. After all, if it can measure distance, that’s the end of the story – right? Not necessarily.
Getting the Most Out of Your Rangefinder
Generally speaking, rangefinders are quite easy to use. Once you have a little bit of time to get comfortable with the device, you should be able to pick out distances quickly and easily. With that said, there are a few tips we can offer to help you get the most out of owning one of these units. Check out the advice below to make sure you are using your rangefinder to its full potential.
Measure more than the flag. Sure, you are going to use your rangefinder to obtain yardages to the flag, but you can do much more than that with your laser. Also use your device to measure distances to things like trees, bunker lips, the edge of a water hazard, and more. For instance, if you are playing a dogleg par four and need to know how far to hit your drive, measure a tree on the other side of the dogleg and subtract or 1yards to come up with a logical number.
Trust the number. Your rangefinder is going to be far more accurate than your eye. Some players make the mistake of not trusting their rangefinder, instead deciding the that the target ‘looks’ like it’s farther away or closer on a given shot. Don’t make this mistake. Trust the technology over your own estimate and hit your shots accordingly.
Use it for a layup. When playing a long par five, you might not think to pull your rangefinder out for a measurement on your second shot. However, even if you are going to lay up, it is still worth your time to determine how far you are from the target. The measurement you take can be helpful in deciding how far to hit your second shot in order to set up an easy third. For instance, if you find that you are 320 yards from the flag, and you want to have 100 yards for your approach, you will know that 220 yards is the ideal distance for your second shot.
First of all thanks for reading my article to the end! I hope you find my reviews listed here useful and that it allows you to make a proper comparison of what is best to fit your needs and budget. Don’t be afraid to try more than one product if your first pick doesn’t do the trick.
Most important, have fun and choose your Range Finders wisely! Good luck!
