Swiss Balls Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy swiss balls, right? No!

It helps you stretch

One of the top benefits of using the best exercise balls for stretching is that it maintains a proper posture. By using the ball, you will have better way of properly trying different stretching postures. For example, without a stretching ball, doing the camel pose or the inverted cobra pose is pretty difficult. But with a fitness ball, you can easily try it without any risk.

Targeting Muscles

Another reason to acquire an exercising ball is because you can do any type of exercise on them. The fitness balls help you target different parts of your bodies such as arms, legs, back, core, chest and other muscle groups and tone them down. By targeting different muscle groups, you increase your own efficiency, mobility and balance.

Wipe your sweat off

While exercising on the stability ball, it is better to keep it clean by wiping off the sweat. Otherwise, it will get slippery and become a hurdle in your exercise. The slipperiness can also become a cause of injury and therefore your workouts will get affected. Moreover, the rubber and sweat have ill effect on the body and can cause rashes and irritation. >>> Find the Best Stability Balls for Office

Exercise in a safe area

As exercise balls are inflated by air, using any sharp object near them can possibly lead to a ball burst. Therefore, it is advisable to keep all sharp and pointy objects away from the place where you exercise with the stability (fitness) ball.

The superior fitness yoga ball is made of thick PVC material that is non-sticky, anti-burst and anti-slip. This means while exercising you won’t slip from the ball. Though we advise you not to do any stunts that can cause you any long-term damage, because one never knows.

One reason we liked the model is because of the stability ring provided with the ball, so it doesn’t slip from underneath your bottom. The ball is available with resistance bands that allow you to do even more exercises.

Inflating the ball might take sometime

Third ball in our list is URBNFit exercise ball that is made of highest grade quality and is burst resistant. The ball can easily be inflated and available in a very decent price range.

The finest Swiss fitness exercise ball is not only suitable for gym but it is durable and can be given as a gift to your loved ones who are exercise maniacs. The ball can support at least 300 pounds of weight. It has a hand pump available with it so you can easily inflate it in minutes. The grip is easy and doesn’t slip. So, while exercise you won’t have to worry about keeping ball at one place. Ut has extra ridges that provide a little bit of friction while working with the ball, the purpose is not to let it pass from under the feet.

The ball is available in four different sizes including 45cm, 55cm, 65cm and 75cm. Choose a size that fits you. As per the test, for people above 60kgs a full size ball will suffice. As for women, a medium sized ball between 55cm and 6m will work perfectly.

The exercise ball has its own set of DVDs from professional trainers who have provided a step by step flow of exercises to work with the ball. It targets most muscles of the body and is a great fitness ball to get you started. Our recommendation is for beginners, who are looking for a decent low-cost exercise ball to go with it.

Proper air pressure

Fitness balls do not have a particular air pressure to fill them to it is done by feel or measuring the ball.

Methods for determining the proper pressure of the ball.

Measure the circumference of the ball with a cloth ruler and match it to the size of the ball you purchased.

An over inflated ball will be so tight it will be hard to push your thumb into the ball more than and and a half inches.

An underinflated stability ball will not bounce at all if dropped onto the floor.

Stability ball maintenance and proper care.  As the ball sits over time, it will slowly lose pressure so if that ball has been sitting unused for awhile add some more air to it to fill it back up to the proper pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

Changing space temperatures can affect the air pressure of the ball. With colder area temperatures the ball will lose pressure and shrink, and with warmer space temperatures the ball has more pressure and expands slightly.

Stability balls do have life spans most manufacturers say it is around 1months, after that the ball should be discarded.

Try to rotate the ball when using it so that one spot does not become more worn out than others.

Avoid storing the ball somewhere it in direct sunlight because your ball will be weakened by prolonged exposure to the UV radiation of the sun.

Pets can damage the fitness balls.

Many animals such as cats and dogs will see your stability ball as a fun play toy, but they can destroy the ball with their claws or teeth. Using a stability ball right after letting an animal play with it is a bad idea because they could put a small puncture in it that will cause the ball to burst once you use it. part balance training with fitness balls

Fitness balls can be useful for practicing some sitting and kneeling balance skills, but i think it is needless dangerous to practice any standing balance moves on them.

For instance learning to stand on a stability ball may look impressive, and be challenging to do but the skills you developed learning this skill will not transfer well to any other activities because the posture used to stand and balanced on a stability ball is not used in many sports, activities or everyday life.  Learning to develop a feel for that sense of being off balanced and then how to correct yourself is one of the most important things to learn as a beginner balance trainer.

Another thing about balance training is that it is a slow process. Sometimes it feels like you are making no progress then one day you have a breakthrough and are surprised how easily you can pull off a move that was once challenging

The video below is an excellent drill for developing your awareness of feeling off balanced and correcting it. I suggest you spend a lot of time on this exercise if you are new to balance training because being tuned into that sensation of being off balance is one of the most helpful ways to improve your balance. Although this is a fundamental balance drill,  it still has the potential to be dangerous so take it slow and be careful.

If you want to continue to challenge your balance after you have mastered the drill in the first video you can move onto this exercise. Picking one spot on the floor to focus on can help you improve your balance. Just concentrate on that one spot and try to get more in tune with the feelings or being off balanced and correcting it.

Additionally, as a beginner, it would be best to spend a lot of time on these exercises because they will strengthen your core. Having a strong core will help you progress in your balance training because it will help with maintaining and controlling your posture to stay balanced.

Fitter First DuraBall Pro

SPRI introduced slow-deflate balance balls to the market, but they’re not the only manufacturing them now. This Fitter First product is even stronger than the Elite, rated up to a ridiculous 1100 pounds; we only rank it lower because it’s two-to-three times more expensive. You can probably understand why the DuraBall Pro is used by many pro athletes, trainers and gyms: it can stand up to a beating. In fact, the company claims it’s the world’s strongest exercise ball.

The DuraBall is made from a synthetic material called Duralon, and its stability and strength makes it ideal for use as a chair, recommended by so many chiropractors and doctors for patients with lower back or posture problems. (Underinflate the ball, if you want to use it in that manner.) But it’s just as suitable for core exercises, strength work and Pilates. There are five sizes available, from 4cm (1inches) to 75cm (2inches). The largest size will cost you extra and the pump is not included.

TheraBand Pro Series SCP Exercise Ball

This pro-recommended ball tied for the sturdiest seat and retained air the best of everything we tested, and comes in sizes suitable for people 4′8″ to 6′5″ and even taller. (7cm)

The TheraBand Pro Series SCP Exercise Ball required the most time and energy to inflate of all the balls we tested, but the effort paid off with an extra-supportive seat. It’s made of a thick and weighty PVC that’s slick enough to facilitate movement but sticky enough to provide a safety-enhancing grip. And, compared with some other models we tested (all of which come in sizes for people 4′8″ to 6′5″ tall), it’s available in an additional, larger size, making it suitable for taller or longer-legged users.

Who this is for

Exercise balls are staples in commercial and home gyms as well as in physical therapy clinics, and are recommended by a variety of health and fitness professionals—from personal trainers to midwives and doulas. Increasingly, health-care professionals offer pregnant women the use of “birthing balls” in labor and delivery rooms. And in the office or at home, some folks choose to sit on a ball rather than on a chair.

An appropriately sized, properly inflated stability ball demands that a person engage a variety of muscle groups just to maintain balance while using it. A stability ball can help you challenge more muscles with a single exercise, or deepen a stretch.

In a small, nonrandomized, controlled study, researchers in Taiwan found that performing exercises with a stability ball helped reduce the lower-back pain that many pregnant women experience during their second and third trimesters. “The original recommendation for sitting on a ball was based on the theory that the core muscles (abdominals and back extensor muscles) would be constantly engaged so that proper posture and balance would be maintained, and you would be getting some exercise while working at your desk,” Marilyn Moffat, PhD, a professor of physical therapy at New York University, wrote in an email. But data from peer-reviewed studies on unstable seating, while limited, do not support the practice―at least for long sits.

Swiss ball lower back exercises

This one is an alternative for hyperextension using a machine. You need to lay on the ball facing to the ground. You should place your lower body comfortably.

As you see, you need to pull yourself up as high as possible. The higher you go, the more tension there is. Concentrate on your muscles and keep your stability. Do not do it too fast, it is crucial to do it correctly.

This is one of my favorites. The exercise itself is similar to the one mentioned before, but because your feet is fixed, we can go higher. It is essential to keep our feet stable.

At first you may find hard to get the right position, but it is worth to spend time with testing. It is a powerful way to strengthen the back and the hamstring muscles.

This workout is a bit different from the mentioned ones. You need to put your feet on the center of the ball, and lay on the ground. You need to stable yourself by using your arms. Then you will need to push your waist up. As you can see from the video, there are many variations. One way is to keep your hip up for some seconds, this depends on your fitness level.

The other is to place your arms on your chest, keep your stability with your elbows, and push your glutes up. This is a bit harder since you will have to concentrate on keeping your stability. The even better and harder way is to not use your arms at all. I do last exercise for 45-60 seconds. It also helps to train abdominal muscles, as well.

If you have not done any gym ball exercises for back pain, I suggest these moves to start with. These back exercises help to develop your muscles mildly.

This is another great video on how to use a Swiss ball for rehab and to improve the core stability.

Do not forget after doing the routine to do stretching.

Vivora Luno Exercise Ball

Technogym Wellness Ball. Just like other active sitting chairs, it offers a day-long, low energy workout that tightens and strengthens your core while promoting excellent posture.. These quirky ball chairs come with a variety of designs that pair well with the typically colorful teenage décor.

The tilting mechanism in the

Mobis Seat encourages active sitting. It’s designed to give you a hip-to-torso tilt of 130 to 13degrees, thought to be the best angle for a standing stool: leaning back at this angle reduces pressure on your hips and engages your muscles, while still being far more comfortable than standing up for long periods. It’s ideal to use with a standing desk.

Wrapping it up

Especially af first it can be tiring and discomforting to sit with your new, healthy posture for hours on end. Initially, your butt and back will hurt.

Just get up and walk around for a bit. Depending on your fitness level, your muscles will typically need a few weeks to get used and will get stronger quickly.

Make Sure Your Ball Is the Right Size for You

Throughout my 10+ years of being a fitness instructor, it’s been my experience that a 65-cm stability ball suites most people best. So, if you have no idea where to start when purchasing a stability ball, get that size (regardless of what the height chart indicates on the box).

Once it’s out of the box and pumped up, the real test is going to be your knee and hip alignment while seated on the ball. If your hips are level with or slightly above your knees, your stability ball is the right size for you. If your hips are way below your knees, you need to purchase a bigger stability ball. If your hips are way above your knees, a smaller stability ball would suite you best.

Make Sure Your Ball Is Inflated Properly, Depending on How Challenged You Want to Be

Here’s a general rule of thumb to remember: the more your stability ball is inflated, the more challenging your exercises will be. The less it’s inflated, the easier your workout will seem.

With a lesser-inflated stability ball, the ball flattens out more on the floor. Meaning, you get more stable surface area to work with. Therefore, your muscles don’t have to work quite as hard to stabilize compared to using a more-inflated stability ball. With a stability ball that’s more inflated, the ball stays more rounded. With less flat surface area to work with, your muscles have to fire more in order to stabilize.

Grip Is Good

It’s important to pay attention to what type of surface you’re working with. Carpet is often slippery. You want a surface that provides some grip. Or, you want to provide that grip for yourself by wearing tennis shoes. In fact, I encourage all people who are new to the stability ball to wear shoes when they’re first starting out.

Get on Safely

Here’s how I see most newbies get on a stability ball: The ball is in front of them. They start walking forward. They move their feet apart and try to slide the stability ball between their legs to sit down.

There’s an easier (safer, and more graceful) way: Put your pointer on top of the ball (so it doesn’t move on you), walk on the side of the ball until your feet are in front of it. Then, take a seat, like you’re sitting down into a chair.

Your Base Is a Big Deal

Whatever is touching the ground is your base. For example, if you’re sitting on the stability ball, your feet are your base.

A general rule of thumb: With a wider base, exercises become easier. With a more narrow base, exercises become more challenging.

When You’re Seated on the Ball, Two Things Will Keep You From Falling Off

The first is, the placement of your feet. As mentioned above, it’s important to pay attention to the width of the base you’re creating. When seated, it’s also important to notice where your feet are in relation to the ball. If your heels start to get too close to the ball, you’re going to feel unsafe. Keep your heels about six inches away from the ball, under your knees, to feel more stable.

Secondly, ask yourself, “Where am I on the clock?” If the stability ball were the face of a clock, with the top of the ball being 1o’clock and the bottom, the part in contact with the floor, being o’clock, you never want to be seated at 1or 1o’clock. Instead, you’ll feel most in control when you keep yourself around o’clock.

Use Your Arms to Help

When your arms are close to your midline it’s more difficult to balance and stabilize, compared to when they’re out at a “T.” This rule of thumb applies whether you’re seated on the ball or you’re lying on your mat, doing core work, with the ball between you feet. If an exercise seems too challenge or you feel unsafe, moving your arms to “T” position will help.

Be Mindful of Your Range of Motion

As your movement gets bigger, an exercise becomes more challenging. The reason: It takes a lot of muscle engagement in order to control large movements. Smaller movements are easier to control. This tip can help you adapt almost any stability ball exercise to meet your specific needs and align with your fitness level.

I am not going to pull away from the lower end balls they are great for a pool table down in your basement that is played on times a year. But if you play more than once a week I highly suggest aramith balls or similar construction. They last longer, they protect your pool table investment, and they offer consistent play for a consistent player

Sitting On An Exercise Ball All Day

Many people recommend that you swap sitting on a ball with sitting on the chair. That blend tends to work best. It is not a good idea to permanently sit on a ball all day.

When starting out, it is best to begin with 30 minutes, then move up to an hour. As the days progress, you can then extend this time period. It depends a lot on where you are using the ball.

At home you will likely be on and off it quite a lot, so that type of sitting is perfectly fine. If being used in an office, then gently break yourself in, and at best use it for 1-hours per day at the most.

Can You Burn Calories Just by Sitting on an Exercise Ball?

A very popular question as you can imagine. The general medical and scientific opinion is that yes you can burn about 6% more calories simply by doing this. Studies have been done by some universities, and these were the general findings.

Sunwayfoto XB-52

Really Right Stuff BH-5*One spec you won’t find affecting the ratings or general reviews is the often-quoted “maximum load capacity” of each head. This is not a standardized measurement among manufacturers, and therefore could mean how much weight the head can hold at some angle, or before a critical component fails, or even what it takes to shatter the head into shrapnel. Without a standard, this (sometimes extreme) marketing number loses much of its weight.

Safe ways to strengthen your back and pelvis.

You can use birthing balls for exercise, or to get into a comfortable position during pregnancy, labour or after your baby is born.

What are the benefits of using a birthing ball?Exercising on a birthing ball in pregnancy can help to reduce any back pain you are experiencing and make it easier for you to move around (Yan et al, 2014). It can also help ease labour pain, reduce the pain of contractions (Taavoni et al 2011, Gau et al, 2011; Hau, 2012, Li et al 2013) (especially if you use it for a couple of months before you give birth), decrease anxiety and shorten the first stage of labour (Li et al, 2013). However if you feel dizzy or ill, don’t use your ball.

Some birthing balls have a non-slip finish, which helps them to grip the floor. Most are latex-free and made of PVC but if you have a latex allergy, it’s worth making sure.

A birthing ball will take your weight, whatever your size. Good quality birthing and gym balls are pressure-tested to support weights up to 300kg (about 47st).

As well as traditional round birthing balls, you can also buy peanut-shaped balls. These only roll one way rather than in all directions. They can be useful if you don’t feel secure sitting on a ball. These tend to be a little smaller and can help you get into squatting positions for labour.

If you feel too unsteady to rock or bounce on your own, hold on to whoever is with you. Alternatively, put a chair in front of you, facing away from you, and hold on to the back of it for support.

Certain positions may help you have a quicker and easier labour and birth. Find out more.More labour and birth videos

How can I use my birthing ball during pregnancy? You can use your birthing ball to:

You may find your ball much more comfortable, and easier to get on and off, than a hard chair or soft sofa.

Also, sitting on a birthing ball gives you a mini-workout. As you rock or bounce on it gently, your tummy and back muscles will be working hard to keep you upright (Watkins 2001).

Get some gentle exercise

You may also want to try exercising your pelvic floor while sitting on your birthing ball (Marques et al, 2013). It can be easier to feel what is happening and you’ll also be working your lower tummy muscles at the same time.

Help change the position of your baby in late pregnancy

If your baby is in a posterior (back-to-back) position, adopting upright, forward-leaning positions may encourage him to switch around. (Hunter et al 2007, Simkin and Ancheta 2011).

Construction of Golf Balls

It might not seem very significant but it is actually the construction and make of golf ball that decides what the nature of a ball’s movement is once it is hit by the golf club. However, the limit, which can also be said to be the most efficient construction of golf ball, hasn’t been realized yet. The dimples of the golf ball and the material used are among the few major things that decide the type of golf ball.

One-Piece Golf Balls

A one-piece golf ball can be said to be a beginner level golf ball. It is not made for professionals or experienced players but just for learners and beginners. It is easy to make with no proper construction involved. This is the reason why it is quite cheap as well. Surly is the material involved in making and there are plenty of dimples on the surface. Since it does not have compression, this golf ball does not travel much far when hit.

Two-Piece Golf Balls

The use of core and cover is done for the two-piece golf balls. While the core is made up of hard acrylate that is of high energy, the cover is made up of tough and study material which usually cannot be cut. This cover enables it to cover much more distance than the usual golf balls. Its firmness renders to it the distance that it covers. This is the reason why a two piece golf ball is the most popular one among common players.

Three-Piece Golf Balls

When the question of spin arises, three piece golf balls come in action. Suitable for seasoned players, this one has a soft rubber core, a mid layer of enhanced rubber and the top hard and tough layer. It is first to offer the advantage of spin separation due to the layers.

Four-Piece Golf Balls

A rather complicated construction, this one is highly suitable for players who can manage spin. Each layer of these golf balls has a particular function. Even the dimples in these golf balls are kept in between 300 to 400.

Spin and Distance

There are three different levels of spin in golf balls and the distance is decided according to the spin of a ball. The balls that have low spin make the ball fly at a straight angle in the air and upon falling; it rolls a bit father due to very low spin. Thus the distance covered is good. The golf balls with a medium level of spin are said to be the best ones of all since they give the perfect combination is spin as well as distance. These balls are more entertaining to play with. The High spin golf balls give more power to the player when used in the greens. The spin of the ball in the air is very high and thus a particular technique needs to be followed by playing with it.

Other Options to consider

There are numerous options available at a hand of a golf ball buyer. For instance, when choosing between Urethane or Ionomer cover, you can choose Urethane if you want your ball to be soft and very durable. Likewise, it is better to go for a ball that is neither too soft nor too firm since it offers an advantage over drag. Whether you are playing over a tee or a green is also a factor that decides what kind of ball you should choose. For green, it is better to go for balls that have good spin. Apart from that if you are on a budget, you ought to go for any ball in your budget by just considering its type because all manufacturers make different types of balls, differentiated in price only by its brand.

Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls

One of the softest golf balls in the market, these offer very low compression and hence the spin is almost negligible. The flight offered by these balls is good and being available in different colors gives them maximum visibility in the air. The drag is also very low owing to the proper spacing of dimples in these balls. The pack is an economic buy for beginners at golf.

Titleist Pro V1

From the makers of Titleist, these are the latest 201model golf balls that have been given the utmost level of perfection during construction. It has a certain level of sin index as well. They have long been one of the most widely sold golf balls in the market owing to their soft feel and the exceptional coverage of distance from these balls. Their maker also gives them a long lasting and durable life. Being one of the cheapest balls in their category and yet full of all the good traits, this is a must buy for all ardent golfers.

Callaway Chrome Soft 201Golf Balls

One of those balls made from the latest technology this one has a dual soft fast core. The maker has been engineered in 201and it gives it a great speed with a very low spin at the same time. Ideal for using in the tee, these balls have a four-piece construction and the top cover is made of urethane. The compression is kept low and that is why the ball has a soft feel about it. It is a good buy when shopping for a four piece construction golf ball.

Refurbished Exercise Bikes

One alternative to buying a brand new exercise bike, is to look at refurbished or ex-demo models. Even for home users looking for a good quality bike, a refurbished indoor cycle or exercise bike can be much more cost effective and are often better quality pieces of equipment.

If you do decide to buy a refurbished or ex-demo model, it’s important to ask what work has actually been done to the bike during the refurbishment. When Origin Fitness refurbish a spin bike, we take all of the components off the bike and make sure all the parts are in working order. If we find any parts that are damaged we replace them. When required, we also sand blast all metal parts to remove as much of the cosmetic wear and tear as possible.

Ball Bladder

A ball is not just what you see on the outside, inside there is what is called a bladder that gives the ball its shape and movement. There are two types of bladders. Butyl bladders are ones used in cheaper balls, they hold air longer but are less responsive.

Latex bladders even though they hold air lesser and need to be pumped more often, they are more responsive and the better option for their price.

Joining Of The Ball

There are many ways that a ball is put together but the best way, and the most widely accepted worldwide is sewing.

The other ways of putting the ball together like gluing or otherwise bonding give a ball that is weak flimsy and very highly prone to damage and spoiling.

Firmness Or Softness Of The Ball

Ever played with a ball that’s too hard? It’s so unkind to the foot. What about one that’s too soft? The ball is too unresponsive.

So it is safe to say the best kind of ball to use is one that is neither too firm nor too soft, just the right middle point achieves your best ball for the best play.

Size Of The Ball

Size is a big determinant in the ball you are looking for, for your game of football. Junior players will need size three while teens size four and adult players size five.

Therefore you need to find the ball that best suits your players and your game too; for instance what size of the ball does your league use then use that in practice.

Revolutionary Design

The design of this ball, revolutionary and creative, creates an aerodynamic drag and frictional resistance. These two factors are very important during training as they motivate players to strike the ball more accurately and with more power at a distance.

An Essential Element Of Effective Fitness Regimens

A stability ball as said earlier is at the center of many exercise regimens including yoga, CrossFit, Swiss exercise programs, etc. This ball can be a big booster in achieving weight loss, toning your core, abs, gluts, hips, improving balance among others.

Choice Of Three Sizes

A wide variety of choice is essentially among the most important factors to be considered in getting any product. This product in this light comes in three sizes each of which the buyer is free to choose depending on their needs and preferences.

Preferred Fitness Ball

If any product was accepted and approved by experts in the field as the best, wouldn’t you trust it? Of course, I would too. This ball has been approved and recommended by top athlete trainers, physical and occupational therapy professionals as well as fitness enthusiasts.

Made Of Eco-Friendly Material

In these times of global environmental degradation, there needs to be made products that are kind and considerate of the environment. This ball is made with phthalates and latex free, non-toxic materials that are safe for both you the user and the environment equally.

Rubber Bladder

The bladder of a ball is like its core, its heart, without it, the ball is just an empty shell not good for anything on the field. The calt training ball has a rubber bladder that retains air for a long period and also maintains the shape of the ball.

Elastic Rope Connected To The Ball

The calt training soccer ball has a nut in the bladder that nicely connects to a screw. This screw is tied to an elastic rope which now connects the ball to the rope. This rope that joined to the ball assists in dribbling trapping, jumping and also helps improve ball control on the field.

Size Three Soccer Ball

The size of the ball is also very significant as you don’t want your child playing with a ball that’s too large or too small. Either way, they become barriers to effective learning or even fun. This ball is a size three soccer ball which is just perfect for your child if they are aged between and 1years.

Superior Touch And Feel

Out on the field as seen earlier you need a ball that is not too hard on the foot neither too soft to kick. It needs to be medium hard as well as responsive and has a good feel for maximum comfort.

This ball has a superior touch and feels that leaves you with nothing to worry about except driving it past that goalkeeper into the net.

PU Casing And Hand Sewed 32-Panel Design

The material making up a ball is a big determinant of how effective and play worthy a ball is. The Kixsports Primus performance soccer balls is made with a polyurethane material that is durable and minimizes moisture to the fullest. The 3panels on the ball are hand also sewn for the same reason, maximum durability.

PU Cover

The reason the best balls are made of polyurethane material is because it is an excellent option for making the outside of a ball. It is durable, soft and resistant to water. This ball is made of polyurethane that gives it all the above qualities aside from the good power transfer.

SBR Foam Layer For Added Softness

SBR is a rubber material used in many industries to make rubber based products. In this ball, it is used as a layer to enhance and foster softness, a very important factor in making any ball for added comfort and ease of play.
