Why did this tackle storage trays come in second place?

Managers explained me all the details about the product range, price, and delivery. I like this product. For such a low price, I didn’t even hope it to be any better. It’s decently made. This is a pretty decent product that perfectly fitted the interior of our office. Seems that the material is good. It has a very beautiful color but I don’t really like the texture.

Tackle Storage Trays Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy tackle storage trays, right? No!

KORDA TACKLE SAFE

Although the shallow profile doesn’t cater for larger items such as hooklinks and the like, the brand new Tackle Safe is designed to be used with the new EVA pouches which have just been released.

The magnetic closure is secure and the build quality throughout is first class.

A total of 2compartments vary in size and those in the lid are slightly shallower than in the base.

The finish is the same as Korda’s Rig Safe with an 8ins measure on the lid to help tie consistent rigs and an extremely durable outer.

The unit seals with a nice magnetic seal

I couldn’t wait to empty my old tackle box and fill this one with all of my terminal gear, which I’m pleased to say fit in nicely, with the exception of the larger items I mentioned earlier.

If I could change the Tackle Safe in any way it would be to make the base section just a tad deeper, but that’s quite picky for what is otherwise an excellent tackle-storage solution.

An all-time classic from Fox

However, the Royale box has brought Fox boxes will within the budget of most anglers and is well worth checking out.

There are also a huge range of compartment boxes available separately which fit this and the other Fox System Boxes, so you can always change the way you set yours out if you want to.

It’s massive!

Internal dividers are movable so you can configure it to suit your own tackle and the 10cm depth of the main body will house bigger items as well as smaller terminal tackle.

If you take the kitchen sink and then some, or just like to have everything with you for those ‘just in case’ moments, then the Rig Station has got you covered.

General Consensus

This is your basic tackle box that serves its purpose without any fancy perks. It comes with permanent rows as well as 2dividers to further optimize your storage, which is the reason they state “4-2compartments”.

This tackle box isn’t waterproof, and the material is a standard plastic you would expect on these types of storage items. It’s durable when handled with care, but over time little bumps and scratches will add up, and it will likely break sooner than some higher-end models. The latches do a good job keeping the box closed, but over time they will snap as well.

The dimensions of this Plano tackle box are 1x 9.1x inches, which makes it one of the smaller tackle boxes that you can get. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. If you don’t have much gear, or you just want to pack the essentials for a couple hours on the water, this is a great little box. If you’re planning to be out on the water the whole day, are going on a trip, or would like to have lots of equipment with you just in case, then it might be a bit too small.

Overall, for the price, this is a nice small tackle box that does it’s job well. The adjustability is a bonus for the price, and Plano is a reliable company with good customer service, so you should be in good hands if anything appears to be faulty. We recommend this tackle box for those anglers who are looking for smaller storage, some spare boxes, or just something really cheap.

Recommendation

This is not to say that the other tackle boxes included in this list aren’t quality made and certainly worth the money. They are. In fact, for certain fishermen, such as those who are just getting started or aren’t as experienced as others, lesser tackle boxes might be preferred. However, the Plano 777Guide Series Tackle System is still the best of the lot.

There are even some areas such as the quality of the materials and the design that make other—especially simpler designs—better for some fishermen than others, and these should be seriously considered for purchase, but the Plano 777Guide Series Tackle System is such a standout that it is hard to ignore it as a choice. The fact is that the Plano 777Guide Series Tackle System has so much to offer all fisherman that even if other brands and makes are considered, it’s almost unavoidable to look favorably upon the Plano 777Guide Series Tackle System, and consider it the best tackle box.

Storage

How much gear will you need to store? Are you planning on just a few hours regularly after work on you favorite stretch of river? If so then you don’t need to be able to carry 4-trays of lures and hooks/weights. All you need is maybe one of the smaller sling packs.

However if you are a bit more adventurous and tend to fish unfamiliar waters regularly or are planning on hiking out into the back country for fishing then you will need to bring a bigger variety of gear. If this is you then one of the larger backpacks that can carry multiple trays and potentially enough food and water for a long day out is the better option.

Comfort

Like any backpack a pack for fishing needs to be comfortable when worn for extended periods especially if it is full of gear. Firstly the pack should distribute the weight evenly across your back and shoulders without any specific pressure point from a strap or it’s shape.

The straps on a backpack have to be wide so as to spread the weight across the top of your shoulder. The cheaper lower quality fishing backpacks will come with very thin shoulder straps. Thin shoulder straps after a few hours with 40 odd pounds of weight will start to cause strain on your shoulders. The shoulder can actually end up pinched if the weight is very heavy so it is best to avoid these type of backpacks.

Waterproofing

Without a doubt a fishing pack needs to be at the very least waterproof against the rain. Preferably it should be perfectly waterproof to the point that it will float. Imagine you back goes over board or falls of the river bank into the water only for it to quickly start to submerge with all your favorite gear in it?

Waterproofing is essential so as to ensure all your expensive fishing gear and other valuables are kept dry and away from any source of moisture.

Convenience

What good is a backpack that takes minutes to forage around in trying to find something wasting precious fishing time? A good fishing backpack should have multiple easily accessible pockets and storage sections so that you can find what you need when you need it.

Having a little extra space than you think you might need is always a good precaution, lets face it most fishermen always bring too much gear “just in case”. The best tackle backpack needs to cover all these points.

SpiderWire Fishing Tackle Backpack

The SpiderWire Fishing Tackle Backpack is split out into top, middle and bottom compartments. The top has secure storage for your valuables whilst the middle cooler compartment is ideal for keeping either your bait or you lunch cool.

The specially molded top pocket is perfect for storing your sunglasses in an easy to access location. Features

Shimano Blackmoon Backpack

A quality fishing bag from a name you can trust the Shimano Blackmoon is perfect for those longer trips that require a little extra comfort from the design and more durability from the build.

The unique thing about the Shimano Blackmoon is that if you need to use the front tray the you need to unzip the bag inn the middle. Although this may sound like a bit of a pain if you need to get at something quickly it is actually a more thoughtful deign as it allows for a better use of the internal space.

TakleTime Fishing Backpack

The Tackle Time Fishing Backpack sets itself apart from some of the other packs on out list because it is one of the lightest here.

If you are looking for a traditionally shaped pack that is super light for a quick few hours on the water then this is the pack for you.   Although it might be light it can carry quite a bit due to it’s generous storage volume.

Even the zippers were given some thought as they are corrosion resistant and should stand up to the damp conditions of fishing. It also doesn’t scream fishing backpack so you can use it for other uses too.

Features

Glacier Glove River Pack The Glacier Glove River Pack is not your average pack that has just a few compartments and pockets. A lot of thought has gone into the deign of the River Pack.

The designers went so far as to provide a pack that has a changing mat for when you are changing out of your waders. But they did not stop there, the front has a special compartment for you fishing boots so that they can dry out as you walk back to the car.

It has a really nice thin profile unlike some of the other boxier designs in our fishing backpack review. If you are fishing along a heavily tree lined river you will really appreciate the body hugging silhouette as it has a much lower chance of snagging on a tree.

Calcutta Framed Tackle Backpack

Big on storage and with three lure trays included this is a great value waterproof backpack that has most scenario’s covered. As it’s name suggest the Calcutta has an internal frame so that its shaped is always maintained and will not deform like some other bags. However the frame does add to the overall weight of the pack so best not for very long days out.

TackleTime Fishing Backpack

This is a fishing backpack which can be used for several types of purpose. This can be used for fishing, hiking, or other personal needs too.

You can use this spacious backpack to store heavy gear, trays or tackle or tackle boxes. There are multiple individual pockets to keep different types of stuff.

If you are into different types of sports including fishing, then this is a good choice for you. Otherwise, you may want to check other backpacks specially designed to keep tackles.

Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpacks

When you will lay your eyes on the Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpack the designs get your attention. The storage space of this backpack is designed differently than other bags we have in the list. The major difference is that the tray space is in the middle, instead of being on the front like most other backpacks designed for fishing.

A highly durable fabric bag, you can store almost any amount of stuff in the Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpacks.

Shelure Shoulder Bag Fishing Tackle Bag

All the fishing backpacks we have listed so far have the same design and you carry them on your shoulders but not the Shelure Shoulder Bag Fishing Tackle Bag. This one is quite unique and it sits on one side of your lower back instead of relaxing on both of your shoulders. This adds a lot more comfort factor to this backpack.

The unique design of this backpack comes a lot handy when you are fishing or want to take out some gear when you are hiking. You don’t have to waste time to put down your backpack so that you can get things. The Shelure Shoulder Bag Fishing Tackle Bag allows you to quickly retrieve gear without taking your backpack off your back. In terms of accessibility there is no match for this trout fishing vest.

Attached to the strap that holds the bag in its position

Accessibility focused design of this backpack leaves it will small storage space.

Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag

If you enjoy fishing as an activity, then you need to have the right gear for the job. The Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag is one of the best gear in its category. The heavy duty and waterproof nylon construction makes this backpack a strong contender to be included in our top six list.

You literally can put your gear in water once you put them in the Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag and they still will be bone dry. The main storage compartment is zippered and it comes with an integrated holder for tools.

Waterproof

Most fishing backpacks are designed to be waterproof, but still you should check that you choose waterproof fly fishing packs to keep your gear dry. Fishing trips are full of surprises and your backpack can slip from your hand anytime. Sometimes, you need to pull out the gear in a hurry and water can splash on the backpack. Having the waterproof backpack will give you sense of safety that your gear is protected.

The only catch is waterproof backpacks for fishing are expensive and you need to consider your budget while buying one.

Wide Centered Straps

The straps have to be well crafts and sewn properly so that they can bear the weight of your gear.

The wider the strap placement on your shoulders the more evenly distributed the weight will be.

If you get straps that are narrow, the bulk of the weight will be on your lower back area and cause you muscle strain.

Material

One more thing you should look for in fishing backpacks is the durability of the material.

You don’t want to find yourself spending time plucking stickers out of the material and wasting valuable time that could be better used for fishing.

The material of your backpack should be robust and resilient, especially since you have hooks and other sharp tools in your sack that you don’t want to be poking you.

Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpack

The Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpack is made with heavy-duty material that takes a licking and remains durable.

The Shimano is designed perfectly for those who travel long distances to get to their favorite fishing spots. This backpack comes with an abundant amount of storage space.

There is more than enough room for all your gear and lunch for the day.

The Shimano has pockets so that you can easily organize all your tools and keep track of them without needing to waste any time to find and use them.

The tray area is in the front, and you have to unzip the middle of the bag and unfold it to get to the tray. While this may be a bit troublesome for some fishermen who would rather not deal with the extra effort to get to the tray, this adjusts and fits better.

Also, this sack doesn’t have any storage space to hold cold items, and you would need to bring a cooler with you on your trip.

The backpack comes with two utility boxes for your lures and other tackle. If a storm happens to surprise you, this backpack also comes with the rain cover to keep your sack dry.

An added bonus for the Shimano fishing backpack is the mesh rod holders on both sides of the pack to allow your hands to be free for other things you are bringing on your fishing trip.

The Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpacks arranges its storage spaces in a slightly different way than other fishing packs and you’ll absolutely love to walk around with it.

Phantom Aquatics Waterproof Backpack

If you are looking for a waterproof backpack, then the Phantom is your kind of pack.

The Phantom is 100% waterproof and will float if dropped in the water and still keep you things dry. The pack is designed to protect your gear from dust, sand, and dirt with its unique high frequency welded construction.

Plus this pack offers a two-way sealing system and lumbar support.

The biggest downside to this bag is the fact that it is just a bag.

There is plenty of storage space in the bag, but you can only get to your stuff from the top of the bag and doesn’t offer any additional pouches.

This bag is ideal for clothing and light tackle but is not recommended for sharp items as they may poke through the material. The reason this backpack made the list is due to how waterproof and resistant this bag is.

The Phantom has a comfortable back panel with airflow design to keep the sweat from soaking into your pack. Plus, it has elasticated front webbing and reflective patches on the front and shoulder straps.

Calcutta Tackle Fishing Backpack

The Calcutta Framed Tackle Backpack waterproof pouches, so that you can be sure your tackle and personal belongings stay dry and will not see any water.

The Calcutta comes with tackle trays, three trays in fact with their specific space.

This fishing backpack comes with ample amount of storage for everything you could want to bring with you for your day of fishing.

The backpack is specially designed for anglers in mind with padded pockets and breathable foam back support.

It includes a storm flap that covers the whole bag to protect against all elements. The interior frame is designed for function and stability.

A bonus for this pack is the foldout lure storage pockets, so you don’t have to unload all your gear to get to the bottom of the bag.

With all the storage space in the backpack, the only thing you might have any difficulties with is remembering where you put everything.

This pack comes with six pockets so you might find yourself fumbling around for a few minutes as you unzip all the pockets in search of your tools.

The frame to the backpack adds a bit of weight to the product so it may be just as fit for a day long excursion in the water.

MadBite SlingBack Fishing Backpack

The MadBite Sling Back is a two-in-one bag that can be used both as a tackle bag and backpack.

It doesn’t sit on your back the way an average backpack would making it more comfortable and light.

Instead, this fishing backpack sits to one side on the lower part of your back.

Unlike conventional packs, this one allows you to access all your gear quickly and efficiently and all you is right at your fingertips.

The material is soft and the backpack is not bulky at all. It is compact in size with enough compartments to store your lures and personal items in one convenient location.

You don’t need to take off this backpack when looking for something as everything can be accessed easily and everything is organized.

This bag is waterproof and offers non-rusting zippers. While the convenience of this bag is incredible, it isn’t nearly as big as a regular fishing backpack.

There is a compartment to store a water bottle but doesn’t have any of the other perks like a tray, or storage space for tackle boxes. You have to organize your gear in pouches instead of boxes.

Don’t be surprised if you get pricked by a hook because everything is stored this way. This bag is perfect for shorter fishing trips but is not recommended for extended trips where you will need more stuff.

Eyourlife Sport Outdoor Backpack

You want your bag sturdy then look no further than the Eyourlife Sports Outdoor Military Rucksacks Tactical Bag.

This bag offers two front pockets to store your fishing gear and is made of heavy-duty water resistant nylon.

This backpack is made for those long hikes to get to your favorite spot by offering a light-weight pack for all your needs.

The Military Rucksack has the interior lined with a rubber coating that will provide the best repellant for water you can get.

It may look small but can store more than what it seems.

You can easy pack your lunch and two small supplies boxes within this sack, but the outer pockets are where you can store all your tools you need for a day out on the water. There is even a place for your glasses or a small flashlight.

While the material of the pack itself is sturdy, the pack comes with plastic clips that will break under pressure. This pack isn’t as big as some of the others on this list but does the job for a day trip.

This backpack is not recommended for weight exceeding 80 pounds. Plus, there isn’t any storage space for your rods so you’ll have to hold them, but besides that, it is a decent little pack.

Piscifun Fishing Tackle

The first one on our list is a miniature tackle bag from Piscifun. The small size makes it ideal for carrying fishing essentials for river and stream fishing.

The sling bag is constructed from a durable PVC canvas material that’s resistant to wears and tears. Its features include a padded ergonomic strap, lots of big and small compartments, good quality zippers, a carabineer at the top of the bag for attaching gear, an additional pocket on the side with a plier holder in front, and a side-release buckle for easy detachment from the body.

The mesh compartment on the front of the bag is perfect for stashing your gadgets and smaller necessities while the main pocket features a lot of pockets – two velcros and one mesh where you can store spools of fishing lines and to standard stowaway boxes, further adding to the functional design of the bag.

Spiderwire Wolf Tackle Bag

The Spiderwire Wolf Tackle Bag is a rugged and very masculine-looking bag made from waterproof polyester and thick denier material that can definitely fit your whole fishing arsenal… And a little room for extra stuff.

It has two front pockets with fishing organizers, plier holders, removable fishing line dispensers, and a molded top handle, bottom and shoulder strap.

It’s amazing how I can fit everything in this bag. The side pockets are convenient for holding water bottles and snacks if you don’t have a cooler while the two front pockets can secure your gadgets and smaller fishing gear.

There are also two plier holders attached on the front pockets. And lastly, I can fit utility boxes in the spacious main area as well as three to four fishing lines in the sideline holders.

Okeechobee Fats Tackle Bag

Now, this next tackle bag is a top contender of the Spiderwire. This tackle bag fits everything so nicely too!

It also features a polyester material, comes with large utility boxes, reliable stitchings and zippers, tons of pockets, molded handles and bottom, front pockets with organizers, plier holders, fishing pole holders, and elastic holders.

Additionally, the bag includes a nice sunglass holder in front, so you won’t have to worry where to put your eye protector and a top waterproof pouch for your fishing lines.

I’ve tried stashing my Plano 3440 series stowaway boxes into the central space and surprisingly, it can fit eight trays! Well, it’s just one option if you don’t want to go with the boxes the bag comes with.

Berkeley Small Tackle Bag

If you are a newbie at fishing and have a beginner’s arsenal, I suggest you go for the Berkeley Small Tackle Bag. I’ve given this one as a gift to my son who just learned fishing, and he loved it.

The tackle bag comes with tackle trays, mesh pouches, slim front and side pockets, removable and padded strap, and a hook and loop closure on the front pouch.

YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag

This last entry is a strappy tackle bag. It has exterior straps for all sorts of things – bottles, rain jackets, and fishing lines.

The YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag is constructed from corduroy-like high-density fabrics that are heavy-duty.

It also features multiple compartments, lots of exterior pockets, a front pocket with organizers, durable zippers, padded waist strap, a bungee cord at the top handle, a bottom strap, an extra pocket behind the flap, and a separate waist pack.

The bungee cord is a very thoughtful addition to secure your tripod or water bottles. Another functional feature of this bag is the bottom strap where I can roll up my rain coat when I go fishing during a not-so-nice weather.

Moreover, the extra pocket behind the flap can serve as extra storage for your fishing tackles. Lastly, the main compartment can fit up to to medium-sized utility trays.

Are you impressed yet? Well, don’t be because I haven’ introduced you to the waist pack yet. Yes, this bag can be worn around the waist too.

So the padded waist strap can be tucked inside a compartment if you don’t want to use it. It’s made from a breathable material, has a buckled closure, and elastic holders for pliers, scissors, and other essential tools.

Didn’t Like

The Verdict Clearly, the winner of the round-up review is the YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag. It surpasses all the other tackle bags in our list when it comes to design, functionality, space, organization, and durability.

The only drawback with this piece of bag is the space of the main compartment which is relatively small to fit large utility boxes but if you’ll opt for the medium sized trays, it will definitely fit in the bag.

A good tackle bag will be your fishing companion so choose carefully

Extra Fishing Line

Your excursion should not be ruined because you broke your fishing line. When you have a tackle box, you can bring extra fishing lines and use them in case the other breaks due to various reasons. It is recommended to bring variety of fishing lines to ensure that you will not run out of supply. When you fish in clear waters, you need to consider clear and thin fishing lines. On the other hand, you use sturdy and thick fishing lines when you fish in murky waters.

Plastic Worms

It is tricky to store the bait especially if you don’t want its musty odor. That is the reason why some people would prefer using plastic worms. Although you carry living bait, it is still recommended to carry with you plastic bait. It is handy and it can be placed in your tackle box. Plus, it comes with various sizes and colors so you will have a greater chance of catching different fish.

First-Aid Kit

It is inevitable to meet an accident during your fishing trip that is why it is important to get ready in case of emergency. Of course, you don’t wish something bad will happen, but it is not harmful to bring disinfectants, pain killers and bandages on your trip.

How to choose the best tackle box There are many tackle boxes available in the market today. Each item has its own unique features, but there are many aspects to consider before you decide to buy a tackle box. Here are the things that you should consider:

Size

The purpose of your fishing trip may be a factor in choosing the size of the tackle box that you will be carrying. For instance, you want to fish a Pike or a Muskie, it requires you to have a lure that is inches and up long. It means that you need to have a longer or bigger tackle box. On the other hand, when you wish to catch a panfish, a smaller box may be sufficient to hold smaller lures and terminal tackle.

Water Resistance

Since you will be out in the water, it is important that the materials in your tackle box are safe from any moisture. Although most tackle boxes are made to be water resistant, it is inevitable for any moist to enter which will eventually create rust and mold on the hooks.
